Topic: Wouldn't it be cool if GC games were on VC

I know you could just go out and buy the games, but I think it would be cool if Nintendo put GC games on VC.
For one, it would be less of a hassle. I hate getting out my GC games and my memory card just to play them!
Secondly, if they were on wii shop, it would help nintendo raise awareness for some games.
Finally, it would just save alot of space, and I would be more inclined to play them if they were on my wii menu.
Call me lazy, but that's just what I think would be cool.

I love that idea!.....buuuut it'll never happen, unfortunately. The system only has 512 mb of internal memory. Most gamecube games are larger than that, Im sure....
keep in mind that the system moves games from the sd card into the internal memory, then plays them. It doesnt run directly off the sd card
edit: sorry if I crushed your dreams any...I came to that realization a while ago

Really?? So the SD card just stores the memory until its needed to be used? That makes sense.
But wait? how do we play wii games then? None of them have more then 512mb of memory, and gamecube does?

Waiting several weeks for a Gamecube game to finish downloading would not be cool, so no.

Especially when you could probably order a Gamecube game from Amazon and have it delivered before it would be finished downloading from the Wii Shop.

Then you'd have to wait a couple days for it to load off the SD card.

So it'd be like "Well, I'm thinkin' I'll play Wind Waker Wednesday afternoon, so let me start the game up Monday morning so it might be ready"

Wii games aren't stored on the systems memory. They load off... you know... discs.

Yes they take much more memory, but they aren't stored on the Wii system's memory like a downloadable Gamecube game would have to be.

@kizzi
All of the information for wii games is on the disk, the save memory only takes about 1 or 2 blocks, (Unless you have something massive like smash bros)

I think he thinks that the game loads EVERYTHING onto the system like vc and wiiware.
To answer this issue let me remind you that the game disk spins, when it spins a laser reads the encryption on the disk and then the information is stored on the system the gpu (graphics processing unit) processes the graphics while the motherboard handles physics, and such. (correct me if Im wrong on anything.) But yes, only part of the game is ever stored on the system while it is being played

Hopefully you will be able to do this on the Wii 2.

I think that the wii 2 will go the same route as dsi in that it will drop it's old backward compatibilty for downloadable versions of gamecube games. Don't worry kizzi, your dreams are just a few short years away from coming true!

Even if this were a possibility, don't give Nintendo ideas. They have enough systems to neglect already.

@Adam: haha very true.

AS Edwin said, I hope it will be on the next console

I suggested that idea too, however I'm sorry to say this, but during the Wii lifespan, it will not work, because the Wii does not have the memory to support ONE Gamecube game on the Virtual Console.

However, the next Nintendo console, it'll be easy to say that it will be on the Virtual Console, if Nintendo gives enough space for it. There's also a rumor (Which I don't believe) that Nintendo next console will be released in 2011. If this is true, you only got a couple of years left to wait. However, Nintendo, Microsoft, and Sony are gearing for longer lifespan for there next-gen console, so it'll probably be longer then that. Also, with the exception of the NES (And then questionable), Nintendo has always been late to start a new generation of gaming, so don't be surprised if we don't see a new console until 2012 or 2013.

Not going to happen, and the gamecube can't be made to use the built-in memory for saves either.

There are some GameCube titles that could probably be remade to fit into WiiWare, though. Ikaruga comes to mind; the XBLA version is 49MB, which is right around WiiWare's size limit. The DC version seems to be significantly smaller than that, so it could definitely be made to fit onto WiiWare if they wanted to put in the effort.

I believe both Cocoto games were originally Gamecube. I'd imagine we could only get games as big as them as far as WiiWare goes.

Like stated, this won't happen, because the games are just too huge. And the Wii still supports Gamecube discs, if you want to play them.

Also, don't forget that Nintendo already is rereleasing some of the best GameCube games in their "New Play Control" series.

Wow, that's a great idea Kizzi.
They could put new controls on them that make it play better. Like a New Play Control or something.

Nintendo could use virtual memory cards like PS3 does for PS1 and PS2 games.

No. They can't. When the Wii is playing gamecube games, it is a gamecube. Same reason you can't open up the home menu, or even use the Wii remote to power it off. The PS3 emulates, whether with software or hardware; the Wii runs natively.

Thought we were talking about for a theoretical "Wii 2." My bad, I got two threads mixed up, it seems.

I don't see a need for this, but it would have been nice to have controller compatibility so we could play GC games with wiimote+nunchuk or Classic Controller and support for internal flash as an alternative to memory cards. Thankfully the Classic Linker Plus exists so I can at last, but I still need to get up and plug in an extension cord and memory card.
