today the developers of Tales of Monkey Island: Chapter 1 announced that the problem with framerate issues on wii is because of the power of the console along with that they said the iphone is more powerful http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/iphone-is-much-more-pow... . thats why i think miyomoto should Finlay kill this machine and upgrade it to be a more powerful console than finally we will get games like Batman: Arkham Asylum, Final Fantasy XIII,grand theft auto,.the wii is my fav console and to see that it beginning to go down the drain saddens me
Framerate problems is just a proof of crappy programmers/testers whatever... They have seen it during development and didn´t care. There are many games with a lot of action taking place without framedrops. One reason I got a console instead of gaming on the PC was that I´m allergic to framedrops. I thought... known hardware, no problems for developers creating nice flowing games. Was I wrong
Power of console 'cause of framerate issues on a point-n-click adventure?! Give me a break. Lousy optimization, more like. Damn, they're HD remix of 15 yr old Secret of Monkey Island on my dual-core PC has similar problems!
Yeah, like I would want to spend over $300 for a system upgrade when I could buy a whole new system for the same price. I don't care about the Wii's power, just wait another 4 years for the next cycle. If you really want games that or more technically advanced, that's what the other systems are for.
I could care less if CoD4 went to the Wii. That's why I have a 360.
i have a 360 and i love it two but i still disagree because so many developers are bringing us rubbish casual game and not that same hardcore wii so need on the wii just because of the power
But there are already 2 consoles to play those games on, I bought wii because it was supposed to be unique, not to play the same games I can play on the other 2 with motion controls, PS3 will even have that soon enough.
well yeah that explanes why other teltale gmaes hat framerate issues on other consoles too....oh boy! while let's say.....strang bad games run totally smooth...this guy is a jerk.
The problem with the framerate in Monkey Island has nothing to do with graphical power or anything related, it's being caused by the severe compression required for fitting the game into the 40Mb WiiWare limit. If you play the game, you'll notice that it skips each time a new sound file is being decompressed and loaded into memory, just before the new music or background noise appears. The devs have confirmed that the size limit and compression are the source of all these difficulties.
That being said, Nintendo is in a difficult situation on that one. Contrary to popular belief, the SD card menu is just a shortcut that copies the entire game onto the Wii's internal storage and then launches it; it doesn't run it off the SD card at all in reality, so the same size / space issues apply. They could raise it a bit past 40Mb, but not much further before the copying time is extended each time to play the game, not to mention the potentially negative effects of copying that much data on a frequent basis.
Twitter is a good place to throw your nonsense. Wii FC: 8378 9716 1696 8633 || "How can mushrooms give you extra life? Get the green ones." -
Ha! Bad framerate on a point-and-click. That, my friend, is just horrible game design, not lack of hardware power. I've never noticed any other games have problems dropping frames. Super Smash Bros. has A LOT going on at one time on the screen and it does just fine.
yeha i dislike the 40 Mb limit also...but it's their freaking job to get it right with the posibilities they have. if they can't they do it wrong. evne if it's impossible to work he problem out (while many other devs have), why not smash the game into smaller pieces and sell them for less. or make it full price and free downloads for the rest after that? i pay them for good work, so they should do good work.
If there are issues with the compression they should have done it differently or load things at times that wouldn't affect the game. Many other wiiware developers have had to severely compress there games.
