Even without Rare games there are still plenty of non Nintendo games that could be released for N64. How about Mischief makers for one. I'm starting to think the N64 selection on the Wii shop will never even make it to 30 games at this rate. Do all these companies that made N64 games hate the system with a passion or what?

tbh, do a search by publisher on the VC and you`ll realise how few games the 3rd parties have on there. if it`s not made by nintendo, sega, hudson, commodore, or SNK. then it seems as if there is little hope for other games to get on there.
It was developed by a third party for Nintendo to publish. Thats why it gets to see release on the VC. If Midway had published it themselves originally then it wouldn't have seen release on the VC. But I also wish to see third party N64 games on the VC.
We've seen Treasure, Square-Enix and Nintendo games on there, so I suppose it's not out of the question. The only I notice is that MM was probably the only N64 I know of that didn't use the Control Stick. I think the N64 L Button (rarely used?) was mapped to the Control Pad (used even less?), so they'd have to change the emu so the D-pad actually functions as a D-Pad (unless the D-pad=L was just for Majora's Mask, so they could mimic the GC version).
@KingMike Pokemon Stadium 1+2 both used the D-pad and L-button. The control stick came only in the mini-games.

It's like, I just love a cowboy
You know
I'm just like, I just, I know, it's bad
But I'm just like
Can I just like, hang off the back of your horse
And can you go a little faster?!

After the Last Ninja 3 debacle we can sadly probably strike Commodore from that list

Super Mario 64 has the purple GameCube Z button act as The N64's underneath Z button (GCN's L button works as Z, too). But Zelda had the GCN's Z button act as C-down. In the original Smash Bros, Z button was shield, R button was grab and L button was taunt. In the Virtual console, they made it mimic Melee, so that L and R were shield, Z was grab and d-pad was taunt. Kirby Crystal Shards, an N64 game which uses the D-pad for movement, works fine with the GCN's D-pad.
Basically, Nintendo has to assign button layouts for each individual N64 game because of how weird the original controller was. They try to make it mimic existing games if they can, too, which is nice.
honestly, how many good 3rd party games were there on the N64?
Not that the majority of these have the slightest chance, but quite a few: Mortal Kombat Trilogy, Mortal Kombat 4, Forsaken, Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Ogre Battle 64, Sin and Punishment, Extreme G, Extreme G 2, Battle Tanks, Battle Tanks 2, and I'm sure others can add to this. Of course, I had to pad that with a bunch of sequels, but I try to be nice to the N64 every now and then.
I wouldn't complaint in seeing some Turok love in the Virtual Console. Also, the upcoming release of Starcraft II would be a good point to release Starcraft 64.
As I recall, when Mario Kart 64 was released Nintendo said that they can't emulate the memory paks on the VC. I made a list of games I'd like to see on the VC & almost all of them used the memory paks to save game info. So if memory paks still can't be emulated for some reason then that would be why we've gotten so few N64 games.
Flandre Scarlet, she's cute, she's colorful, she can blow up entire cities, she's also a vampire. Start running sparklepants.
I can understand if the third party companies dont want their games on it, or simply cant, but what about games like Donkey Kong 64 for example. It's a Nintendo character, so it can be made. And also the Mario Party games. Granted, having all 3 on it would be a waste, but having maybe 1, 2, or 3 on it isn't tht much of a problem.
