@oldgamesonly - they are completely different games; with different stage layouts, different graphics, one saves while the other requires a password, you can't take control as Maria in one of them, one of them does not have the Bible subweapon, different amount of alternate pathways, same music (albeit with different sound qualities), and relevant plot (both take place in 1792 Transylvania, Dracula gets revived by a cult, Annette and Maria get kidnapped, and Richter goes to save them and plans to do away with Dracula forever).
As starboy Says, Dracula X is a very different game. And to be quite honest, it's not a very good one either. It feels rushed, lacking polish and pizzazz. It's also unfairly difficult at times. I wouldn't recommend getting it over Rondo of Blood unless you can find it cheap (you can't).

I used to do that, too, until I lacked the funds to do so. Oh well, it'll come out on VC soon enough (hopefully not soon, though).

On a related note, which would you guys say is the best Castlevania DS game? I'm playing Symphony of the Night for the first time and loving it, and from what I understand, the DS games follow the template for exploration established in that game. Which would you recommend?
I highly recommend Dawn of Sorrow it plays alot like SotN but is also has some twists of its own. The only thing though if your DS can play GBA games or you have a GBA you might want to play Aria of Sorrow first since Dawn is the sequel and somethings may not make sense if you play Dawn first. Also if you do plan on playing Aria and Dawn play Aria first cause Dawn will revive a big spoiler for Aria. Both games reminded me alot of SotN.

THIS. 1 and 3 are both classics as well. But with 3 I hated how it was none-linear...Since you end up missing certain levels on your first play and the chance to be certain characters. That's the thing with me, I don't want to plow through the game a second time just to experience those levels that a missed by taking a different path OR getting the chance to be a certain character during a certain level. All of that should of been in the first play through.
But what about on your second playthrough? If it gave you everything in one go, the next time you play it, it'll be exactly the same. At least with Branching paths it would be like experiencing an entirely new game.
