Topic: What would you rather have, VC games or the original carts?

The originals, for collectors purposes as well as the fact that I need to keep working old consoles around anyways for all the great games that aren't and will never be on the VC. Especially when it comes to the SNES, by far my favorite console of all time. There's no way I could do without one when it's still the only true way to play some of the best classic RPG's like Lufia I&II, EarthBound, SoulBlazer, Terranigma, Robotrek and more.

VC,
for convenience (I can just pull up the game on the Wii menu, not having to have all my systems out together),
the fact that there aren't enough NES and SNES that interest me enough to buy the old systems (blasphemy!),
and because the N64 games (the majority of what I buy) play so much better with the more ergonomically friendly grip and better control sticks of the Gamecube controller.

And I use parentheses too much

I love how nobody has mentioned the polygon/resolution boost of N64 games. Or the beautiful 480p.

What about the Non-Nintendo games, which there are so much more of on VC?

Some of us never got to experience that...or notice the freakin' difference.

For Me I would want VC because I feel better having only 1 system to play all my games thats why I hope the Wii's Successor will still be backwords compatible with GCN and Wii Games. But I think I will Collect the Original Carts but Famicom and Super Famicom Because Chrono Trigger Is only $10 and Mother 2 Is $30 and a lot of others are the same below $20.

@XD375 - Thought my post was big enough as it was, but both SSB64 and MK64 look a lot better on VC

@Mickeymac - Never really got into non-nintendo games. only one from VC I bought was Bomberman 93, which got "shelved" after Bomberman Blast came out for Wiiware! 8-player matches and no creepy bunny girl on pause screen FTW XD

I do how ever want certain games for VC that arn't out Yet like DK 64 but I just think its like normal games just u know about them Years before they come out. But I think DK64 will come out in Sept or Oct For DKC Returns.
I also would want more Imports Like Famicom Wars, Final Fantasy II Japanese Version, Mother, Fire Emblem, and Oddly Enough BS Satelight Games.

I had a feeling you'd say that a crying shame, but it can't be helped, I suppose.

Also, how was that post big? Even if you Had simply posted it in sentence for it wouldn't have been very long at all. People tend to write some majorly long stuff around here, in case you haven't noticed.

In regards to rather, I'd rather have the carts but if the only way I'm gonna get to play certain games is through the VC, I'm ok with it. Although I've never played any N64 games on the VC, I think it would be weird using the classic controller, but the games look nicer on the VC. I saw someone playing Star Fox 64 and was wondering why the graphics looked so well. I've heard that you can't transfer any downloaded material from the hard drive to an SD card. Is there any truth to that?

As far as VC games go you can transfer them from the hard drive to an SD card but thats just so you arent taking up space on the HD. You can only access the game from the SD card on the Wii that you bought the game on originally. In other words you cant DL a VC game and than put it on a SD card and than play it on another Wii.

Another big plus for VC is not having to deal with multiple consoles on one TV. Imagine if you had all 8 VC systems hooked up to your TV! That would be one hell of a mess. I find the games look and sound better emulated on the Wii too. It's really just flawless emulation. Don't even get me started on those clone systems floating around now. They butcher everything.

The only real downfall to VC is the lack of content. Obviously with the real hardware you can track down almost any game in it's original cart form. But there's not much Nintendo can do about 3rd party publishers that have gone under or licensed games. Just the way it is.

It just depends on how much the actual carts cost and how well the game is emulated on the VC. For example, I refused to buy Wave Race 64 because it scrapped the Kawasaki license. So I bought the actual cart for 5 bucks, which is cheaper than it is on the VC anyways. But Rondo of Blood was an easy choice on the VC, because I just don't have the money to get an import PC-Engine and to buy the actual game, which can go upwards of 100 bucks. I am a collector though, so overall I would prefer to have the physical cart that I can hold in my hand and display on a shelf.

carts i wish i could sell most of my vc games

I keep and still play my old consoles, so I only go for the VC when I cannot find the cart for a lower price. A plus for the carts is the ability to use Game Genie and/or GameShark.

Ah yes, the lack of Game Genie is the only reason I don't really care that Battle Toads is never coming to VC.

If Nintendo finally steps of the VC Breaks and would release more games, there would be really hardly a need for the "old gamecarts"
but be honest people, mostly mainstream games ( Mario, Sonic, Kirby etc ) with a few raritys ( Doremi, Wild Guns, Final Fight 3, etc ) are be found at VR, most of those games you can pick up for same or less at ebay or garagesales. The games the released on VR right now makes it hard to say goodbye to a most or a real gamecollection with a good old SNES / Super Famicom, N64 etc.

Personally i prefer the real carts and CDs, playing on the original system.

Ebay shipping charges add up. "Same or less" will end up meaning "more" very fast, and that only applies to the biggest name games (and then only some -- you mention Kirby, but Super Star goes for $20, and was probably worth more before VC). And you can't find everything you want at garage sales.

And then who knows how well games you find on Ebay and at garage sales will actually work.

Yeah, and to be quite honest, that is a major drag. I bought a Sega Genesis simply because I got sick of waiting for the games that I wanted to come to VC (and I'm a bit of a Sega Fanboy). I might do that with the Super Nintendo someday, but I doubt it, since the best SNES games were RPGs that never came to the U.S., and I'm perfectly happy playing those through "other means."

Title says all.

Personally, I'd rather get the VC version because its cheaper, easier to get, and gives at least a small amount of moolah to the guys who made such an awesome game.

What about the games that still aren't on the VC? Not just the rare JRPG's like Seiken Densetsu 3 and other Japan Only stuff that they probably won't ever give us no matter how much we nag them about it, but common stuff too, stuff we (or atleast I) remember playing as a kid. I still don't see Little Nemo The Dream Master, either of the two Duck Tales games, either of the two Chip n' Dale games, Darkwing Duck etc. Hell, they don't even have Mega Man 6 (the best one, imo because of the Jet Suit and the Power Suit) or any of the Mega Man X's for that matter (looking at the VC list wiki for North America which might not be constantly up to date, so if they added them and I didn't know, sorry it's not like I really keep up on it).

Sure I could go to a flea market and pick up a used SNES and start filling my closet full of cartridges and taking up space, and of course I could play SD3 the "legal" way by importing the cart but then it'd still be in Japanese which wouldn't make the game much fun for me since I wouldn't understand any of the dialog. I'm also way too lazy and impatient to wait for them to add stuff I can already play just as authentically, if not better than the original hardware via my blank hooked to a blank via a blank with a good usb blank.

I would choose the VC because:

  • It has suspend play, which makes games without save features much easier to play because you don't have to keep playing to finish it if you don't want to start all over again.

Those "other means" have something like that too, usually the F2 and F4 keys.

I see. So when the next Wii comes out, do you think we can transfer the games to the new Wii as long as it's registered under the same person?
