Personally, I'd rather get the VC version because its cheaper, easier to get, and gives at least a small amount of moolah to the guys who made such an awesome game.
Always carts for me, I have the carts and VC downloads for some games because of that. I really want Earthbound and if I had the choice to buy it for 100 bucks or dowload it I would definitely buy the cart instead.
Suspend play is like magic. Wireless controllers are nice, too. Well, relatively wireless. I'd rather a Classic tethered to a wireless Wii remote than my short SNES cords that force me to sit in front of the TV.
Yea, the Wii will someday die, and with it all those games, but so will my SNES and game cartridge, both of which will likely be sooner. Most Wii hardware problems are with the disc drive, which doesn't affect VC, or are due to homebrewing, which I don't dabble in.
If Earthbound came out on VC next Monday, I'd be so happy I'd give the cart away for free, with the console. (Though, ever the worry wart, I might get a black Wii as back-up!)
For me its not so much carts vs VC as to why I buy the VC game. Alot of the games I bought on VC like SUper Mario Bros 3, Simcity, Streets of Rage, Mario Kart 64 and a ton more is because I dont have my old systems anymore and for now buying a Super Nes or Genesis or NES doesnt fit in my price range where as a $5 Nes VC port of Super Mario Bros 3 does.
I also do like the suspended play too comes in very handy especially on games that dont have a save feature like Street of Rage, and even Super Mario Bros 3 (which is one of the games I wish did have a save file back on the old NES cart version) or a game that you can only save at certain points like the Megaman games or Super Marioworld.
But for me at this point I would have to say VC over carts but like I said thats cause most of them I have in cart form already. However if I didnt have the carts anymore I would have to say that VC would win in my book for convience, since some of those cartridges can be a bit pricey and thats only if you can find them and a working one at that. WIth the VC I dont have to worry about tracking the game down and than waiting for it to ship than worry about if its going to work or not.
The only thing I dont like about the VC is that if you Wii dies than you have to rebuy all those games again they should really work on a way that you can transfer your VC titles to another Wii in case yours should break.

50Hz VC games, no thanks! Until Nintendo change their outdated approach they can keep them. Will stick with my modded Megadrive and stack of actual games!

If what you meant by worring about the cart dying you mean battery dying I don't see a problem in that since the batteries can easily be replaced as for the system you can alway buy another or get a clone.
And...
I thought I was the only one who worried so much to actually buy a second system.

I never did understand why Nintendo refuses to do something so simple as to allow the change to 60Hz. I can't imagine it would require much coding, would it? At least giving an option to choose between the two would be nice.
Well, Peach, I have no idea how to change a battery in a cart or where I'd get such a battery. I imagine it'd be more expensive and time-consuming than a hypothetical VC download either way. And yea, I could get another SNES, but no telling how well it'll work, and if I'm buying a clone, I might as well just get another Wii, which plays (or at least, will play) a lot more games if you include the download services, which is where I do most of my gaming.
As for a back-up, no, I haven't ever actually done that, but I might think about it if Earthbound came to VC. Then again, if Nintendo's hardware is really so unreliable, I'm not sure I'd want to support them, and there are alternative means of playing the game which I've already purchased.
The only downsides to the VC I can think of is that not all the games are available yet, and that some of them will most likely never see the light of day on the VC because of licensing issues, 3rd party stubbornness, ect.
Yeah, and to be quite honest, that is a major drag. I bought a Sega Genesis simply because I got sick of waiting for the games that I wanted to come to VC (and I'm a bit of a Sega Fanboy). I might do that with the Super Nintendo someday, but I doubt it, since the best SNES games were RPGs that never came to the U.S., and I'm perfectly happy playing those through "other means."
Virtual Console for me. There's of course suspend play and lower prices, but the thing is my NES and Super NES don't work and I'm too lazy to get them repaired. Besides, where I live, used games are more expensive than the VC versions. I might get the cart if it is a rare game (like Kid Icarus).

Oddly enough, I can get some games (Such as N64 games) for less than the VC versions.
@ Mickeymac: Remember, I said that the retail versions of the games have more expensive "where I live." Then again, there are online retailers and some stores with five dollar N64 games.

Yup. I've gotten N64 games for like, a buck online. Even with the cost of shipping its cheaper than VC.
I still have all my old consoles because not all the games are on VC, but I would prefer to play on VC because component video looks so much better than composite, suspend play is nice, and it spares me from having to hook up an old console to play. I've been debating whether to buy VC games where I still have the original cart, because it seems silly to buy a game twice, and for games that have battery saves I'd have to start over (and for all I know my Wii might not even last as long as the original battery save).
