Metal Sonic is available as DLC for the 360 and PS3 versions of Sonic & Sega All Stars Racing? That's just great, since I got the Wii version, which will never have DLC because Nintendo doesn't do add-ons.

If the Wii version was your only option, I feel your pain. But if you have or get a PS3/360 in the future, now you know the general rule of thumb when buying games that release on all three consoles: Never buy the Wii version.
but what is the problem of making it available on wii? I don't own this game but thought about getting it some time in the future. this is also my one little problem with mario kart: dlc with new maps would be soooooo awesome and would even more improve logetivitly and replay value of the game. heck, just add some maps from other systems, no need to come up with completely new stuff, although it would be greatly appreaciated, too.

You see, the DLC Sega is offering is a rather large file at152.04MB, to be precise. Consider that Nintendo allows WiiWare games to be no bigger than 40MB and you'll see how large that is. I'm not certain about the specifics now, but while playing a Virtual Console game for example, the game is temporarily "copied" to the main system memory. If you don't have 152MB, you wouldn't be able to use the DLC, regardless of the amount of space you have on an SD card. A lot of DLC is BIGGER than 152MB (which is already over a quarter of the Wii's full internal memory), and it would be ridiculous for Nintendo to expect consumers to cram these large files into their Wiis (which would require consumers to constantly be deleting things off the system for ONE PIECE of DLC), as well annoying to companies to rework their files and compress/ remove things.
Long story short, DLC=too big for Wii. Yes, some DLC like extra Guitar Hero songs are fully possible, but those files are small and therefore easy for the Wii to handle.
