Out of all the games you have, which do you enjoy the most that received the lowest ratings? There's a couple gems that some reviewers just don't get.
For me it's Baroque. I love my dungeon crawlers, and Atlus knows how to publish great ones. Definitely a fun crawler, good story and great music. It can be pretty brutally hard and has a huge learning curve, but that makes a good crawler IMO. Easly an 8.
Never played either, but deBlob looked interesting. Just haven't had time. So much other things to play, and Atlus needs to stop releasing stuff full of awesome for a while so I can catch up. I got the red steel/no more heroes two pack and haven't even unwrapped them yet.
Donkey Kong: Barrel Blast comes to mind but I dunno if I'd dub it as my favourite but it's definitely in my Top 10 sleeper hits. Reviewers "just don't get" that game at ALL. I'm so glad I gave it a try despite the critical reception. It affected my decision greatly towards not trying it and taking the plunge in the end turned out to be worth it.
@ Corbie, De Blob was well received... Unfortunately I'm just a kid and thus can't afford games unless I know they'll be good (although I usually get my games cheap - read here: https://www.nintendolife.com/forums/general_discussion/money_s... That being said, I have been let down by Metacritic before, mainly on Blastworks and Bangai-O spirits. Anyone want to buy them off me? That being said, Soul Bubbles on DS was under-rated I suppose, but not too badly. Oh, and one random thing, whenever I type Soul bubbles I always spell soul as "sould." ALWAYS. And then I have to go back and change it. Thank god for the spell check in IEPro.
Also, anyone know a place better than Metacritic for reviews. I know it's controlled by people who are controlled by the corporates, hype and appealing to fans but it's all I've got. Coughhttp://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/xbox360/grandthefta... theft auto AHEM
Soul Bubbles isn't a Wii game, though. Other than Metacritic? Well, you should stick with Metacritic. Don't just read the worst/best reviews. Read as many as you can to see what the common praises are, as well as the common gripes, then see if they're things you can overlook. Another suggestion would be to head over to GameFAQS and listen to Reader/User Comments. Those tend to be way more accurate (depending on the game, of course). Nintendo World Report has nice reviews and the comments here on Nintendo Life are great in showing a great mix of opinions on certain games. Don't always let reviews govern your purchasing decisions. Try renting games. In fact, your parents may be more open to that. Then, if you like it, you can buy it later on when you're allowed to.
de Blob wasn't received as well as it should've been and I think that's what Corbie was getting at. Not many gave it a go just because it looked "childish". Boy are people missing out.
[quote=KnucklesSonic8]In fact, your parents may be more open to that. Then, if you like it, you can buy it later on when you're allowed to. quote] When I said "kid" I should have said turning 16 this year. My parent's haven't bought me a game since Pokemon Gold came out (I'm paying $50 day 1 for that game). Anyway, here in Australia we have the best refund policies. Basically, if you buy a game and don't like it, you take it back within 7 days and get a different one instead - no questions asked. Almost all game shops and some electronics stores in Melbourne offer this (including independent ones) and EB games even give you cash refunds and 14 days to play the game. However, some shops (which usually aren't games specialists) don't offer this, and they are almost always the ones with the best deals. However JB Hi-Fi will always have a "Trade 2 games get 1 free" offer for the latest release (Platinum for example), and so I don't really mind if I end up spending $25 on a crap game, and for more expensive games I'll price match at EB/GAME for reassurance. Basically, There is not much point in renting because down here if I buy a shit game it doesn't really matter - I'll either take it back or keep it as trade bait. As for renting to try it out, rentals cost $6 for one night over here, and it doesn't feel right "renting" a game using the 14 moneyback guarantee at EB Games. Anyway, If I see de Blob again I might buy it, but tell me would it be worth it for someone who hated the PC version to buy this game? That's why I didn't give it a shot.
And i know Soul Bubbles it on DS, I've beaten it. (spelled it Sould Bubbles again BTW)
