You know you have your favorite type of game genre, but isn't there one game you have that stands out so much, that you just have to play it because of how different it is? Something you can enjoy, even if it goes against what you normally don't like?
For instance, I'm a huge fan of 2D platformers. My wii is loaded up with donkey kong country, kirby gmes, sonic games, mario games, but then on the far end of the screen lies something no one would expect from me. A shoot em up, a type of game series that I find a little too hard to handle and just could never get into. At least, not until I played Lords Of Thunder. One of my all-time favorite guilty pleasures, since it allows me to bang my head to the awesome music, and shoot everything in my way to a boss in the most ridiculous fashion.
Okay, now you try.
Why do astronauts backtrack? They forgot the Space Jump Boots.
I question your definition of a guilty pleasure. You'd think it'd be something you aren't exactly proud of, like Dead or Alive Extreme Volleyball or a half-decent licensed game. By that definition, my "Guilty Pleasure" would be...I suppose Muramasa and Linkle Liver Story. I got Muramasa for the graphics and because the girls in it are hot, and it handles both in Spades. I got LLS for the furries and the wacky japanese-ness.

What's the term I'm looking for then? I'm not so sure myself

Probably Super Dodge Ball. Love the Kunio-kun character design, the music and sending the opposition flying with guided-missile dodge balls! So addictive I play it now and then, even though I've beaten it dozens of times.
Guilty pleasure... I kinda have my little issues with that expression because I feel it implies that I'm somehow ashamed of something, which I'm really not. But I SHOULD be ashamed of my CSI games that I keep playing, because they're really really horrible and still I can't stop XD And everyone seems to hate Ufouria because it's so weird with all the strange little characters and enemies and the plot that makes no sense, but it's always gonna be one of my favorite games

I have never started a thread on NL. Maybe I'm scared of dragons and chickens.

That's a good question. You're talking about a game in a genre you aren't good at and you rarely play, right? But you love this particular game...hm...maybe you could call it a guilty pleasure, since I forgot such things are self-defined, as the other posts here show.
Onslaught, I hate FPS's with a passion but this ones different because its not Overrated.

For me, it's Shadow the Hedgehog. I don't know why I like it so much, I don't know why I have such fun playing it, I just know that I do.

Another one here is Othello for NES. I've got hundreds of games and the latest, most powerful systems (with the 3DS soon to join my collection). Little King`s Story and most JRPGs due to the cuteness of LKS and the japaneseness for JRPGs.
Sean Aaron ~ "The secret is out: I'm really an American cat-girl." Q: How many physicists does it take to change a light bulb? A: Two, one to hold the light bulb, the other to rotate the universe.
Kirby's Epic Yarn... it's so cute. Nobody understands why I like it so much (mainly non-gamer friends and family), but all I can think when I play this is "SQUISH!!". I think I'd call it a guilty pleasure cause it makes me feel good about my gaming skills.
Sonic3, Kirby All Star and Yoshi Island I think i found myself, coming back for more, for these game.

Epic Mickey. I always feel childish when I play it, mostly because Mickey Mouse is now mostly associated with a preschooler's TV show. The game isn't really childish, though.
There's no reason to be guilty about Super Meat Boy! It's a self-described tough-as-nails platformer! It's harder than N+! Meat Boy himself is awesomesauce! Bandage Girl is hawt! Doctor Fetus is evil beyond evil! The first world's opening parodies Street Fighter II's opening! You can't ask for any more or less than that! I like exclamation marks!!!!
