So apparently ¢ap¢om is going the Pay-To-Play route with Monster Hunter 3. They just initiated an online fee for the Wii port (!) Monster Hunter G, which was released in April, to celebrate the anniversary of the creation of their money-making franchise. If you want to go online with this game, you'll have to buy a subscription using Wii Points. This is a harbinger for MH3. If they're going the subscription route with a port, then they're going to do it with MH3, which will make them way more money.
14-day free online trial, then players will have to purchase Hunting Tickets
30 days ticket = 800 Wii points
60 days ticket = 1500 Wii points
90 days ticket = 2000 Wii points
See? They listened to your criticisms when you complained that Wii's online should be more like the 360's. So rare to find a company that listens to their fans!
Oh @#$$%! We Americans are actually going to have to pay for online!? I thought we Americans might actually play Monter Hunter 3 for free! I will still pay it, 2000 Points is not that much. But, Monster Hunter 3 will have a LOT less sales in America because of this.
Ya they started a subscription service on the PORT (!) Monster Hunter G just recently in Japan. It's a preview of what's to come with Monster Hunter 3. Though of course, the fees could be higher on 3.
I don't think they've announced what the fees will be in Japan yet; since they're doing their own server infrastructure I wouldn't be surprised to see fees everywhere to be honest. Still, if they want it to be big overseas they may have a longer free trial or lower prices.
That would be terrible. Rather than being known for being a great Wii game here, it would be known as that Wii game you had to pay for to play online. Might hurt sales, true - but there's nothing like that recurring revenue from "subscribers."
I will not be getting this if online fees are involved. I'd rather just play an MMO if I'm going to do that. Otherwise, I'm definitely interested in the game.
This is not confirmed for America. Just thought I'd say that before everyone freaks out.
I was about to go crazy about having to pay for online (Since I can't afford to do that.), but thank you for saying that there are no confirmation yet that America has to pay for online. Free online FTW!
