I have never played a gamecube game on my wii, since I never had a gamecube, but a friend of mine has both and claims she can play gamecube games on the wii (and save!) WITHOUT a gamecube memory card. Has this worked for anyone else? I've tried to find any kind of info on this but came up with nothing, the whole thing just sounds weird to me, but according to her it works?
That wouldn't work for one main reason: the Wii converts itself into a GameCube in order to play GCN games. The PS3 and and 360 use different methods for backwards compatibility that involve using the PS3/360 hardware AND the disk.
No Wii-based hardware (such as USB ports) is compatible with the GameCube, meaning the GameCube wouldn't know what directory to go to or how to read the save files since it can't grasp that the Wii even exists. This is also why the classic controller isn't GameCube-compatible--it's not physically possible. It's extremely likely that your friend has a modded Wii if she's truly able to save her games.
i use a pelican memory card I've had it for over 7 years and I always leave it in my wii, I never take it out except maybe every once in a while ... of course once I left my wii on for a week maybe I'm just lucky (knocks on wood)
I got a sexy deep v-neck and I'm not afraid to use it XD

Yep same (since 2006 even), one of my card is a official 251 block and the other is a 1019 block card that I got from LikSang back in the day, has a usb port on it so I can back up all my saves
Uses some dodgy chinglish software though lol, came on a floppy disk!
I had something like 70 hours logged in Skies of Arcadia Legends and was nearing the end, then I went and got a Wii. At some point after the initial excitement I remembered Skies of Arcadia and decided to finish it (on the Wii), only to discover that my first party memory card was corrupted. Some games will still load up data (namely F-Zero GX, which probably would have made me cry if I had lost all the stuff I unlocked), but none of them can save anything. It's sad, but... oh well. The important thing is that Ribbit King Plus still works fine, because I'm still amazed that I tricked my friends into falling in love with that game.
