So far, what I think you're describing (GC memory cards dying after leaving them in for a certain amount of time) hasn't happened to me so far. Of course, mine could die tomorrow, but that's still a maybe.

Mine died a few years back, but the bizarre part is that the save data 'revived' itself for one day, then died again. O_o Couldn't have been a battery issue because I'd reused the (empty from losing mass data) card after the reset. Never got an explanation for this.
As I said in another thread, Nintendo should adopt Sony's virtual memory card concept. You can create memory cards for ps1 or ps2 games by using your harddrive and a specified size of KB. It's s novel concept but I doubt we'd see it this gen. Maybe next time? Or GC games will be in Wii 2's VC. XD
Hrm...never heard of this, but as Scypher pointed out, apparently this actually happens. Very weird. This never happened to me with the Gamecube, maybe it's just a Wii thing? The Wii generates a lot more heat than the GC did...

Wow I have had my Wii since the US launch and I have kept my GC memory cards in the slot since than. So far (knock on wood) I havent had a problem. Are you using a Nintendo memory card or is it a Third part made one?

Actually, the Wii provides less power to GameCube gear. I have a 3rd party controller which only works in my GameCube because the Wii doesn't give it quite enough juice.
I've had my share of GC failures in the past. My first card, (NYKO 64mb), was simply a bad card. I had it for 2-3 years and during that time, a power surge corrupted it while the system was off (use a surge protector now), and it corrupted on its own two more times. Needless to say, I exchanged it and bought a second Best Buy.
Now that I have two cards (one's a backup), I can recover most of my data should one suddenly die. However, both of these NYKO cards have yet to fail me.
If I'm currently working through a GameCube game/game which uses a GameCube controller, I'll tend to leave the stuff plugged in. However, If I'm not/I know it'll be a while before I play a game which uses GameCube gear, I'll tend to unplug the accessories, simply because I like the uncluttered look.
@shinesprite I have the same NYKO card but in red. it has Fail me,a few times, so I want and got the Nintendo brand memory card used, and it still works to this day.
For you, the day LordJumpMad graced your threads, was the most important day of your life. But for me, it was Tuesday. [url=http://www.backloggery.com/jumpmad]Unive...
I use mad catz memory cards. They failed me so much when I first got them, but one day I decided not to format them ever again and just took it out and put it back. It wasn't corrupted anymore somehow and hasn't failed since. I had my GCN memory cards in my wii all the time for quite awhile and didn't do anything to them.

Whenever I play my GameCube games on the Wii (which is all of them), afterwards I take out the Memory Card and stick it in my "Accessories" case. I guess this problem stems from users who leave the Memory Card in for long periods of time?
Indeed, they're pretty terrible. I have to reach over and put pressure on them every time I need to save a game (or shove small pieces of paper in the slot). They haven't actually died on me though, and my Nintendo-branded ones did. o_O
I seriously can't remember anything Nintendo just dying on me during normal use (even the stuff from the 80s, which still works today) but I'm not exaggerating when I say that EVERYTHING MadCatz I've bought has died for no apparent reason within a few years at the most.
My official Nintendo GameCube memory card 1000+ became forever-corrupted after leaving it in for a while, taking 71 GameCube game saves with it...
I ordered a new one from Amazon... but I lost over 8 playthroughs of Tales of Symphonia as a result... It wasn't even an at-once thing. It became more and more corrupted and when I tried putting it back in my GameCube, I lost EVERYTHING.
That never happened to me because when I played Tales of Symphonia on the Wii, I left the GC memory card in there and I took a damn long time beating that game (and finishing everything). Although now when I play Smash Melee, I don't leave it in since I just don't like the Wii's slots being open like that, lol.
I have never played a gamecube game on my wii, since I never had a gamecube, but a friend of mine has both and claims she can play gamecube games on the wii (and save!) WITHOUT a gamecube memory card. Has this worked for anyone else? I've tried to find any kind of info on this but came up with nothing, the whole thing just sounds weird to me, but according to her it works?
