I was very surprised to not see Krang in the game. They had promised lots of different characters from the turtles franchise but all we got was mostly characters from the new movie. The rabbids are just stupid, makes me wish Konami had the license again.

I haven't played the game, but I agree with the fact there aren't enough playable characters. They really dropped the ball on that one.

And by adding 3 rabbids in the mix was a terrible idea....
Not to mention it looks almost like a first gen PS2 title, and lacks Polish. Some how, it feels like an incomplete game and clearly there wasn't alot of time put into it, or at least it seems this way. What boggles the mind is that some of the developers were big fans of TMNT, yet their choices on characters was just ridiculous and totaly lacking....How could they not stick in even Krang!?

Krang would be way too overpowered.

This game was terrible and I wasted 50 bucks on it. Never again will I buy a game without first checking reviews.

It's another Liscened game, big suprise. And Ubisoft is behinde it, so there was a bigger chance that it would most likely suck. It's mainly been getting 7/10 reviews everywhere so it couldn't be too bad, at least I thought so. Personally, I'd nail it with a 6/10. My love for TMNT, Smash Bros, the fact that it was developed by some of the same people who worked on Super Smash Bros 'and' it's decent reviews made up my decision to buy it But I'm glad I only payed $20 brand new online.

Do NOT buy, everyone has been warned

So my copy arrived today. Only played it for a short bit over lunch, but have to say that (from first impressions) the game isn't nearly as bad as many people have made it out to be.

The controls work well, the move set is decent, and there are some neat additions to the Brawl system. Having a health bar that actually causes you to die is a big improvement in my mind. Items don't seem to be the game-breakers here that the were in Brawl, and the overall level of chaos is toned done quite a bit. So far I'm enjoying it much more than Brawl because the limitations actually make sense. Instead of throwing everything into one giant mixing pot, Smash-Up only does what makes sense and then focuses on doing that well. (It's worth mentioning here that Brawl never appealed to me like it did to most Nintendo fanboys -- there was just too much randomness.)

That said, I have two issues with the game. First, the music is disappointing just because I didn't hear any throwback to classic TMNT compositions (cartoons or video games). Second, I miss not having nostalgic characters from the old cartoon series... although I totally understand the decision to keep the game focused on the newer TMNT series.

This game isn't the same as Super Smash Bros Brawl, although they do have many similarities. Smash-Up is definitely shorter and more focused. It still provides fast-paced action and some interesting stages to battle across. It isn't a celebration of the entire TMNT license, but just of one aspect of the Turtle franchise. If you can accept those caveats then the game is a great purchase - especially as clearance prices come crashing down. (My copy was $10, an absolute steal at that price!)

Poor man's Brawl, or a solid experience with fewer features instead of half-assing a lot of content that isn't really properly polished? Guess that's a matter of opinion.
