TMNT: Smash-Up....What a freakin dissapointment. SSB Brawl does every single thing 100 million times better and beyond. Sad to say I was REALLY looking forward to this game, not only because I'm in love with the Ninja turtles(80's/90's Cartoon, first feature film, toys, the first awesome Arcade game, Nes/GB titles, Turtles in time and merchandise mainly), but because it was a SSB Clone 'and' it was being developed by some of the people who worked on the SSB franchise which I'm sure got every Ninja turtle fanatic's Beebop panties wet.
Now I've only played this game for a few hours, but during that entire time i couldn't help but think "screw this, I want to play SSB Brawl -instead. Me and my friend played Vs and tag team mainly during the time and I'll give you my little quicky and for the most part negative and dissapointed opinion
The bad
-TMNT: Smash-Up's controls are very stiff, clunky and feel less intuitive than Brawl's. -There's barely any depth -The graphics are mediocre, flat and unimpressive -It doesn't have the spirit. vibe, look, feel or sound of the Ninja turtles -The music is piss poor and doesn't use ANY music from the franchise, not even a remix of the TMNT theme -The sound effects are annoying -Throwing your opponent is harder to pull off and not as fun to do -There are only 7 playable character from the start -Dodging is clunky and totaly inferior compared to Brawl's -There only seems to be a few items, and they are uninspired and boring to use -The music is drowned out by the SFX(but I'm sure you can tweak that in the Option menu) -The game feels lifeless and on the cheapy side
The Good
-Wall Dash Attacking is very fun and satisfying -Tag Team mode is solid -Online(which I havent tried yet) is supposed to be a big improvement over Brawl's which was Laggy and basically unplayable.
But yep, like i said I really liked the Wall dash attack. Where you basically jump(and stick) to a wall, press the action button which then makes your character quickly dash and attack towards your character. Mikalangelo's especially is awesome and really fun to pull off and see Also the Tag team mode is great, and apperantly the Online mode is much better than Brawl's Laggy terribly Online rubbish so that's a big plus.
Anyways, once me and my friend kind of mastered the controls we did have alittle fun, but that's honestly again mainly because of the wall dashing. Mind you, I still feel like playing the game, but that's because i wan't to unlock more characters and try out the Online Mode. Honestly though, again this game has zero spirit of the TMNT franchise...And what a missed opportunity based on not sticking in some of TMNT's most iconic characters like Beebop, Rocksteady, Kraing, Baxter Stockman, Rat King, General Traag, Leatherhead, ect ect the list goes on and on....
Overall, I'm flat out dissapointed.....And most likely will end up getting rid of it, I want my $20 back At least I didn't pay full price for it when it first came out. Try before you buy, it's mediocre at best and ends up feeling like a POOR man's Brawl
Umm......we already knew that when the game was announced. You Okay? 0_o

Yeah, I just picked the game up last week and it is a bit of a disappointment. I really don't care about graphics or anything, I just feel that there isn't enough characters and stages, and I agree, the controls are a bit stiff. While those are some pretty big negatives, I still found myself enjoying it a bit, once I got used to the way the characters control. I am not sure if I am getting rid of it, because I am a tmnt fan, but I can't complain much, I got the game for cheap. Also, I went into the game knowing it was going to be a dumbed-down SSB clone, so maybe thats why I am really not that bitter about the experience.

Of course everybody knew TMNT-Smash Up was a weaker SSB-like clone including me once the reviews started piling up Online, But i still thought it would of been better than what we got. Have you even played the game?
I haven't played the game, but I agree with the fact there aren't enough playable characters. They really dropped the ball on that one.
And by adding 3 rabbids in the mix was a terrible idea.... Not to mention it looks almost like a first gen PS2 title, and lacks Polish. Some how, it feels like an incomplete game and clearly there wasn't alot of time put into it, or at least it seems this way. What boggles the mind is that some of the developers were big fans of TMNT, yet their choices on characters was just ridiculous and totaly lacking....How could they not stick in even Krang!?
-Online(which I havent tried yet) is supposed to be a big improvement over Brawl's which was Laggy and basically unplayable.
People always say that, but my experience with online Brawl has been perfect.. it's flawless without lag for 80% of the time, and even when there's lag it wasn't that bad. As for TMNT, I bought the game then read the reviews then returned it without playing it... it's a brawl clone so I think it's useful only for people who really have a lot of time and played enough of brawl and got sick of it.. me , I'll never get enough of that game due to time constraints.
So ends a saga older than time itself. The World's oldest and fiercest army has been led to victory, and a lost generation is delivered from its fear of extinction. As the sun sets over the field of conflict the dinosaurs disperse, hoping never to set foot in this place a...
It's hard to believe members from Brawl worked on this game, like everone has said, it's a dissapointment. The game really sounded like an awesome idea, but they never really took it far at all. There are hardly any characters at all, most of them from the newer movie (was hoping for some characters from the 80's/90's cartoon) and the stages are very unimaginative having nothing to do with TMNT (apart from the city level). I knew this game was a Brawl clone, but I actually bought it for a "Turtles" game and it failed at even just that.
TMNT IV: Turtles in Time remains as the greatest Turtles game ever made. But I'll always have a huge soft spot for the first TMNT Arcade game which is my favorite Turtles game period....It was amazing back in the day and constantly ate my quarters like there was no tomorrow at the Corner Store or Chucky Cheese hehe. The music, SFX and colorful awesome graphics were just classic. Konami nailed the look, feel and sound of that game when compared to the Cartoon. And I also loved TMNT II for the Nes, hell I even enjoyed the frusturating first mediocre entry for the Nes.

It actually wasn't a "horrible" game, just strange (the enemies were bizarre). I liked the idea of having all four turtles and when you die they get captured which you then have to find and rescue them. The intro music also rocked.

Agreed. I loved the intro music, classic track I remember back in the Nes days I could never get past that ridiculous Water Dam Level where you're supposed to disarm the Bombs or whatever. It was impossible to avoid that damn evil Pink Seaweed at times I have TMNT 1-3 for the Nes, yet the last time I played the first was a couple years back on the Wii VC and after many tries I actually made it to the final Level, but It was just too much and I could never make it to Shredder. It's not a horrible game by any means, but definity ranges from Mediocre to decent. Donatello was the best because of his Longer range and the music rocked hehe.
The GameBoy TMNT titles are pretty good on the otherhand. I have TMNT: Fall of the Footclan and TMNT II: Back from the Sewers. FOTFC's sprites are pretty damn impressive and easily smoke what was seen in the first TMNT nes game. Yet overall the gameplay is very simple and barebones, but it's just so satisfying and fun to play. I still haven't played TMNT III: Radical Rescue as it seems so incredibly rare and hard to find....Probably one of the most rarest games known to man, I've never seen it pop up once on eBay, only the japanese version

I was directly speaking about the title of this thread, not all of your complaints (I haven't played the game, so I really can't comment on those). And as for how I knew that the game was going to be an poor man's Brawl, look at the list below:
#1. It's a licensed game. Not only do they rarely succeed in being good, but even if they are good, they have the expectations of the fans they need to live up to. And as we are realizing now, most fans have outright ridiculous expectations.
#2. THE TEAM RESPONSIBLE FOR THE GAME WENT DIRECTLY TO THE CREATORS OF THE SMASH SERIES. I'm pretty sure that explains itself, right?

There's one right now and a few on amazon. Wasn't a huge fan of TMNT games, though I liked to play a bit of Turtles of Time. I did buy Radical Rescue because it seems to be a Metroid-type game. Haven't played much, though.

Damn, those Sellers don't ship to Canada and eBay doesn't have any for Sale...bummer. Anyways, I ended up playing TMNT: Smash-Up again for an hour or so just to give it a second chance. I pretty much slayed everybody with Donatello Online, which was kind of fun hehe. That aside, Arcade mode is trash and felt slapped together by a 4 year old, The Bonus games are meh, Shooting for trophies was fun for a minute, and I have zero desire to unlock the secret characters. This is going in the Sucktastic bin, along with Madworld, Deadly Creatures, Let's Tap and HOTD: Overkill
I actually dont think its to bad, yeah its a bit dissapointing with the few characters but other than that i find it to be a pretty decent fighter game
Look at the developer of the game. Forget the franchise.
Once you saw who the developer was that should have been it. No buy.
True, but since the developers of SSB were involved you couldn't help but feel somehow excited and full of mild hope If only Capcom or Konami had the rights....Those 2 developers know how to make great Liscenced games. Duck tales, Chip and Dale. TMNT Arcade, TMNT IV: Turtles in time. TMNT1, 2 and 3 for the Nes ect ect.
Ubisoft nowdays are terrible regarding their Wii games. I actually used to think highly of them when they pumped out the wonderful (yet incredibly and insanely difficult) Rayman for the Playstation

Hmm... Sounds like it's worth checking out. Your taste in games is so opposed to mine that all the negativity probably means I would love it.
You're basing my taste in games on just those 4 Wii titles that I didn't like? HOTD Overkill is the weakest entry in the HOTD Franchise. HOTD 2 is fantastic, and 3 aint' too shabby either. Which is why I baught the HOTD 2 & 3 Collection instead, which beats the crap out of Overkill. As for Madworld, I'm just not a fan of 3D Beat em ups, but I gave it a shot because it was getting great reviews 'and' because of it's unique Black and white look. It's just not my cup of tea, the game felt lifess, boring and totaly repetitive. Deadly Creatures may of had decent atmosphere, but the combat was weak sauce and unintuitive and i got tired of it half way through.
And if you're a big fan of SSB and have played the hell out of Melee and Brawl, you will be greatly DISSAPOINTED with TMNT: Smash-Up. The only redeeming factors are the wall dash attacking, Tag Team mode, it's Online Mode which has zero lag based on what I played, and the fact that it's TMNT. Everything else is crap to mediocre compared to Brawl.
