The VC for summer last year wasn't all that good and was a bit slow for '07 as well although we did get Paper Mario and Wave Race 64. But the VC always gets big hits in the fall like SMB3, Super Mario RPG, Secret of Mana, DKC3, etc. We'll probably see the VC back with big hits in the fall like Super Mario Kart, Final Fantasy, Pilotwings, etc.
Some of the panic and hand wringing over the VC is just ludicrous, quality retro games are a finite resource, the triple A titles are always going to be rationed out, and I really don't see the point of wasting a download slot on an average retro game sjust to keep whining rose-tinted glasses wearing nerds happy.
I am quite confident you'll be getting Super Smash Bros on Monday. Although I said that last week about this week's releases too and look what happened.
Nintendo aren't going to not give you a VC game for a third week in a row. That would be quite stupid of them
Edgey, Gumshoe, Godot, Sissel, Larry, then Mia, Franziska, Maggie, Kay and Lynne.
I'm throwing my money at the screen but nothing happens!
me too, and then every one here will rejoice despite freaking out these past couple of days
Even if it's something really rubbish?
probably, any VC game is better than nothing i suppose
And this is why the VC whining is so utterly, utterly pathetic.
You'd seriously rather see a substandard retro game wheeled out undeservedly over giving an independent developer a chance?
What's even more pathetic is that you think everyone has the same opinion on retro games. For example, a few people I know of don't like Metal Slug 5 & 6 and I do like both of those games. Do I try to change their opinion? No I don't, I hear those opinions & I move on, simple as that. Another example is that I don't like RPG's that much except for Pokemon yet lots of people do like RPG's.
Heck, I'll even go far as to say that I prefer Real Bout Fatal Fury & Samurai Shodown IV to Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask & SSB. I actually have that opinion.
Also keep in mind that not all indie game makers are good.
If I had to choose between a substandard retro game and a substandard indie game, I'd probably go with the retro one since it'd at least have nostalgia in its favor.
And the presumption that releasing a VC game somehow prevents Nintendo from also releasing an independent game on the same day is what's really rubbish. Nintendo is quite capable of doing both.
1: Monday will be the first of the month 2: The next game will be the 310th VC game 3: There hasn't been a VC release in two weeks 4: Super Smash Bros is already out in Europe and Japan
What does that point to? I'd say Smash Bros on Monday.
