Is it possible to save the game without dying? On the NES, you could hold Up+A on controller 2, and would get the option to save, but that doesn't work on the VC. Does anyone know if there is a way to do this on the VC version?

I'm pretty sure I've used that method to save but I could be wrong.

You could use the Wii's save state feature.

Ben Cartwright: I don't have anything against education - as long as it doesn't interfere with your thinking!

I found out that if you pause the game, then press Up and -, you will be able to save the game without dying.

Note that this is essentially the same as committing suicide, and the game will count it as a death. The nly difference is that you don't have to spend 10 seconds finding an enemy to run into a bunch of times.

I never found that game all that appealing. I still can't find the second dungeon.

Keep searching the overworld, then - make a map if you have to, though it shouldn't be nessecary. There's no trick to finding the second dungeon, just explore the land until you find the entrance. It's not hidden or anything.

Go up, then left until you cross a bridge, then left two screens until you find moblins, then down, then right.
That's just off the top of my head but I'm pretty sure it's right.

@Adamant I will have to check again, but I don't think it did count it as a death. I noticed this morning that on the GBA version of Zelda II, it was counting this as a death however.

@NotEnoughGolds That is Level 3, level two is several screens to the right and up from the beginning.

Oh, that's right.
If I recall correctly, you go east until you hit the lake, then north 1 screen, then west until you reach the room with blue stairs leading up to the dungeon.
I always could remember where level 3 was so I usually did it before level 2 anyway.

I should really replay that game sometime soon. It's been far too long.
