Anyone remember that girl at the end of the E3 2009 trailer the one that Samus says "I'm Samus Aran." to? I don't see her in any of the later trailers. Does anyone know if she appears in any of the newer trailers?
She is "a very important character," according to one of the developers of the game. I don't have a clue who she is, but I don't want to find out here. I'm saving the surprises for August 31. So far, I have not seen her in any of the new trailers.
@PunnyGuy and Link-Hero I also read in an interview last year that she's supposed to be an important character. I haven't seen her in any other trailers and I'm beginning to wonder whether her character got dropped from the game.
I'm not sure. There's speculation that she's a clone of Sammy, which I guess could make sense. There's also some who say she's her daughter, or her sister. The latter doesn't really have much to lean on, but I personally think that might be it.
The best strategy in the game: go up stairs and pause balls.
@irks: Considering we already know how Dark Samus originated and that Other M has nothing to do with the Prime trilogy, it's safe to say that's not the case...
@Don: All the trailers so far have only dealt with the first hour or so of the game, and since she's a character who's crucial to the story, it's only logical that you don't hear about her until later in the plot...

At the end of the original Metroid the game says "The galaxy is not safe from the Other Metroid" or something like that. Maybe this has something to do with it just like that message data log in Corruption that speaks about the Dread Project which hints at a new game like "Other Metroid" that hints at Other M.... maybe.

She's a higher-up in the Galactic Federation's research unit, but that's still a low rank compared to the rest of the GF. She claims that she can help Samus, but instead leads her into a Space Pirate trap - she's angry at the Galactic Federation for allowing so many scientists to die in the attack on the space colony above Zebes due to poor protection, and thinks if she can teach the higher-ups a lesson, they'll up security. She's seen innocent lives, her friends and collegues, lost, and whilst she hates the space pirates for what they did, she can't let more die but she lacks the authority or position to do anything about it herself. And since Samus seems to be under Malcovich's command, someone with power and always on the look-out for a promotion up the ranks, if she can put Samus in harm's way then maybe he'll listen.
Ok, I just pulled that out of the air. I have no idea who she is.
it was officially confirmed somewhere that she is in no way related to samus, clone or otherwise. you can figure she's one of the (only?) surviving scientists on board, and, given all the secret experiments going on aboard the ship, is probably wickedly evil. or not? either way, just because she's blonde doesn't mean she's samus number two.
@Chrono+Cross: The log about "project dread" in Corruption wasn't hinting at any new game, it was just Retro Studios taking a shot at the rumored Metroid Dread (which may or may not exist)...

Hmm.... I'm guessing the next Metroid game will have to be something that involves the Dread Project?
(I know Metroid Dread is a rumor, but think about it. Maybe it's Nintendo's chance for a Metroid game on the 3DS.)
Metroid Dread does actually exist, conceptually it is completely finished according to Sakamoto-san.
The game is believed to have been canceled, with Nintendo having recently stated that it is not in development. Yoshio Sakamoto later claimed that it had been in development and that he may like to return to the title after Metroid: Other M.
In an interview, Yoshio Sakamoto confirmed that the upcoming title, Metroid: Other M, is not the long rumored project. Sakamoto also said that the game was real at some point and may eventually be released, but Other M is "something that's completely different".
