Why is everyone so upset about not having SSB 1 in NA if no one wants it?
Because we haven't got an N64 game since majora's mask in May.. 5 months ago. 1000pts for a fun game like super smash brothers 64 is a steal. Its like people wanting starfox snes, super mario kart snes, kirby superstar, and super mario land 2 yoshies island, theres already sequels and remakes of those on the N64, gamecube, and Ds. Its a great feeling to play the orginals.
I have to say Melee. Brawl was awesome, but I liked Melee more
^ What he said. ^
Brawl was all kinds of awesome, an amazing package. But, the controls in Melee were better, tighter I'd say.
But there are three different usable controllers, the Gamecubes controls are the same as Melee's, and you can customize the controls with any controller.
The Game.
Is it after 9PM EST? You should probably ignore the above post.
Sorry, I meant the way the characters reacted. I personally found it slightly slippier (?!) and harder to chain moves, but only slightly, very slightly. As a one player experience I'd go for Brawl, but in a 1 on 1 fight (which is where Smash is at it's best) I'd choose the (slightly) tighter controls of Melee.
@briunj04: I remember that commercial!! XD I have to say Brawl, Melee was great, but Brawl is basically Melee...only bigger and better. (and the music is awesome)

Keep it PG-13-ish.
Brawl for the win. While the original was good for its time and Melee perfected the controls (mostly due to the Gamecube controller), Brawl is the game that truly feels like a game worthy of any library.
EDIT: To whoever has Brawl; BUY A GAMECUBE CONTROLLER (if you don't already have one)!!! It is the ONLY way to pwn at an SSB game!

Id say Brawl, but thats a really close one. I like all of them I like how different the characters are.
By the way, one of the best Snake players world-wide plays with Wiimote and Nunchuck ("UltimateRazer"). Personally, I prefer a gamecube controller (Falco voice), a Classic Controller also works pretty well for me though.
The only control method that sucks in general is the "lonely" Wiimote.
Yeah, same here...GCN controller for me too. I've tried using the Wiimote and I play terrible, Classic is ok I guess, like, option 2 if i don't have a Gamecube controller around.

I like them all, but I really have to go with Brawl on this one. SSB64 is great, but too basic to be the best. Melee was great, but I hate the airdodging mechanic there which allows for Wavedashing. That simply takes the character out of the characters, if you know what I mean. Brawl is a bit on the slow side compated to Melee, but I still like it much more. Besides Yoshi really improved in that one, which is great since he's my main!
Brawl. I love the new additions like King Dedede & Lucario. The stage builder really seals it for me.
I've played the original recently & I like how raw it is. It feels purer to me. Also throws play a bigger part, which appeals to me. Some of the original stages (including those not in later versions) are the best yet.
Melee is great, but transitional, much like the GameCube itself.

I personally prefer the wiimote nunchuk combo, although if I have to I'm comfortable with the gamecube. But I really don't care for the classic controller, the control stick is to low.
I think Brawl because it improved in everything the other series done. I played melee the other day and I don't like it anymore. Brawl had more characters and better physics.
Well then, reading on everyone's opinion, I loved the first Smash Bros. because it was one of the many games I had on my N64 which carried me through the sixth generation and it was a great multiplayer experience.
Melee (When I first played it) was way fast to play and the controls were tight but there were some questionable characters in the game (Dr. Mario? WTF? He's a doctor that throws pills. Which genius thought of that?) and well, most characters were solid to me (Samus and Dr. Mario [shockingly] were my favs).
I played Brawl in a local game room with my friends and it took me until Summer '08 to own it for myself. To me, the Subspace Emissary was a good story but the mode could've been a bit edgier and more story-efficient. Thanks to it, I unlocked all the characters without having to brawl like 100 or even 400 times. The Final Smashes were a great addition, as was the stage builder and the online play (though some people barely show up to play). And getting all the extra goodies like trophies, the VC trials and the music and extra stages made me a solid Brawl player, even though I play with the Wii-mote/Nunchuk combo (it suits me more and I don't have a Cube controller! Skipped the 6th gen. and got a Wii to kick off the 7th!)

There can only be one, like in that foreign movie where there could only be one, and in the end there is only one dude left, because that was the point.
How to make people go crazy at a brawl tournament: "Hey, who wants to play a match with items and time? I brought my wiimote!!"
I hate it when no one wants items, it takes so much fun out of the game. Nothing says fun like this: [youtube:Ksd-h_hhBf4]

I'm going to say Super Smash Bros. Melee. That game was amazing. Great character roster, tons of new features, etc, etc. If you don't have the game, I highly recommend.
Super Smash Bros. is also excellent and I cannot wait to see it on the Virtual Console to play it again.
Super Smash Bros. Brawl while very good, was the most disappointing video game I've ever played. I had a high expectation for the game that they could me, but sadly, I believe the game potential was wasted. Let's just say that I barely play the game anymore.
