I've completed the game at this point, I have 114 stars as well. It's rather challenging at this point because it's all S world stuff with prankster stars.
I'd be interested to hear additional feedback from you, given your unique perspective here as a particularly vocal critic of 3D Mario games yet ardent fan of dash-to-the-flagpole gameplay in 2D.
I haven't played it myself yet (should arrive within a couple more days), but I get the impression that it pushes further towards a true hybrid of linear-2D and exploratory-3D gameplay elements, much more so than the first Galaxy. While that (and the reduced hub world) actually gives me a bit of concern that I might end up preferring the first game, these changes seem more suited to your tastes, and I'd expect you to at least favor it over the past 3D Mario titles; but perhaps the only-gradual difficulty that Nintendo favors for 3D still puts you off?
Twitter is a good place to throw your nonsense. Wii FC: 8378 9716 1696 8633 || "How can mushrooms give you extra life? Get the green ones." -
I'm sure you can, but that reqyuires downloading videos (and my computer is slow at that for some odd reason) and converting them and all that stuff. I'll just wait for this site to create a download of the soundtrack like they did with the first one. Making the soundtrack myself is a pain in the butt.

Keep it PG-13-ish.
Seeing as Corbie hasn't answered, i'll ask my two questions here. I hated the purple coin missions in the forst one, so are there less in this one. How hard is it? ONM said that you'll struggle if you haven't completed the forst one and I currently have 84 stars but I'm not sure how many I'll have by the time I get SMG2.
I've only done a couple purple coin challenges thus far, but they've felt much more balanced and fun than the first Galaxy game. But it really depends on your taste; I personally didn't mind the comets in the first Galaxy, so really enjoying the challenge this time around. However, there are much more of them in Galaxy 2, so if you absolutely despise them you might want to think twice. One thing that's interesting, though, is that the comets are sort of unlockable--each galaxy has a hidden "comet coin" within it. If you find it, you can play that Galaxy's comet challenge. It's a better set up, I think, and it makes the comets feel more like a reward and less like a forced hassle.
Thanks for answering the question and even though I don't like the purple coin missions they didn't stop it being the 2nd best game ever (Imo, second to SSBB) and this looks even better so I'm still really looking forward to it.

I'd like to hear more from Adam as well. Not because I want to rip his argument to shreds; (okay, maybe a little) I just think his perspective is really interesting. To me, Galaxy 2 feels like the first 3D Mario game that truly captures the spirit of Mario's 2D adventures. As for the difficulty, it really just comes down to your skill level. Personally, I think the game can be downright brutal. One Speed-Run comet in particular had me literally smashing the Wii remote against the wall. But it's a good kind of brutal--like the 2D games, I always feel like I die because I've done something wrong; not the camera, not the controls. Me. But depending on your skill I can see how some people would find the game to be easy.

That's rather surprising. But Nintendo Power isn't the pushover it used to be--their reviews are pretty damn picky nowadays, especially when it comes to first party games. Even still...I can't think of anything wrong with this game.
