Like we all know, Super Mario Bros. 2 (aka Super Mario Bros. USA) was actually Doki Doki Panic, but with a Mario facelift. The game has recieved critism for being too different, but I love it. I believe it's refresing and was a stroke of genius by Nintendo of America.

So don't be a Shyguy, tell me what you think of the black sheep of the NES trilogy!

I think it's the best of the NES games. I don't know anyone else who agrees, but I love that game

Thanks for the first comment! SMB 3 is still my favorite, but I love the uniqueness of SMB 2.

I like it. I'd like to play it as DDP though...

Unless you use warps, it's the hardest Mario game (in its original version). I don't know how Nintendo thought this was easier than the real SMB2, especially when the latter has infinite continues.

I like the game in theory, but the original form is too frustrating and makes it my least favorite 2D Mario. I love the Advance version though, and the All-Stars version is good, too. I'd love to see a sequel with a similar game design but with more modern sensibilities.

For some reason, I didn't like that they added score for the GBA version.

@Adam

In its original Doki Doki form on the Famicom Disk System, the game allowed saving, and actually required that you play all the way through with every character in order to see the final ending, or something along those lines. They just had to drop the saving feature for the US as they did on many games due to the expense of using battery backup, etc., and that is a shame, but thankfully the All Stars and GBA versions were able to correct that.

Seems like they should've just used a password feature.

I always thought it was the easiest one. The game only has 20 stages, and most of them offer less challenge than SMB, SMB3 and World. You always start with at least two hits (4 as a maximum). It´s very easy to gain extra lives too. Just pick the right spot to collect coins for the slotmachine and you end up with more lives than you can possibly need.

That being said, it´s my favourite NES-Mario. Great sprite design, and throwing veggies... wonderful concept. Trippy too.

I almost never win extra lives on the slot machine.

Also, I did not know that, Wario. That sounds a lot better to me. Weird that there was no password feature to compensate.

Still, I guess it's a different type of skill than normal Mario games, but levels like that one where you are on ice going straight right with tons of flying enemies coming at you with little reaction time... There's nothing on par with that, difficulty-wise, in any other Mario game, including Lost Levels -- in my opinion. If the Advance version is any indication, that last level and boss are a lot tougher, too.

I still love the game though. Many fond memories, even if I can't enjoy it quite as much anymore after playing the Advance version.

So what's trickier SMB2 or hacky sack, dude?

This game sucks for one reason: the music! The same 2 songs OVER and OVER again. And amazingly, I seem to be the only person bothered by this.

I wish the game had a save feature, but overall, it was OK.

OK, I was the first kid on my street to beat this game, and gained a good reputation and some friends for doing so, so for these reasons, I shall never forget SMB2. I did indeed love this game, and played it again on All-Stars, and still like it. Even though it was one of many NES #2 games that strayed from the formula of it's great first title it was still a good game, even if it was different. As for those #2s, think about it for a sec, how many games were great, got a sequel which was very different from the first title, then got a third that went back to the original formula? Here's some examples: Super Mario Bros, Zelda, Castlevania.

It's a me, Luigi!

I even bought Doki Doki Panic for my Disk System. I love both games. Very different and cool.

Plain old gamer :)
