If we had online, a lot more options would be available, like DLC and leaderboards. Also, there could be a patch available to include multiplayer, which would be a win-win.

You are dreaming, considering the small amount of space on the Wii (256 MB).

My one problem with multiplayer that isn't like the first game is that it wouldn't really enhance the experience. This is a game meant to be played by one person. Unless they create levels where you have to work together and coordinate, I don't think it would help at all.

So ends a saga older than time itself. The World's oldest and fiercest army has been led to victory, and a lost generation is delivered from its fear of extinction. As the sun sets over the field of conflict the dinosaurs disperse, hoping never to set foot in this place a...
Well, it did have a 2P option, albeit a very uninteresting one, so it was certainly not meant for just one person. It wasn't a terrible idea, but the game just wasn't anywhere near hard enough for it to be necessary, and it would just result in a bored second player wishing he could be Mario instead.
That said, online play is never going to happen. The best hope for multi-player is that they make the current multi-player more interesting somehow, either by granting player two more abilities or making harder levels to make it worth playing -- perhaps even an option where if you play two-players the level will be populated with more enemies? I would also welcome a return to Mario's roots with alternating play, something I think the change from hub to map would facilitate.
Mario has always been a game meant to be played together. One of the greatest disappointments with the 3D Marios was the move away from this, so I was glad to see Galaxy at least putting some minimal effort to correct this.
