Argh, I got to 9F of the first segment of the Karakuri Mansion, and then died by a cruelly leveled up ghost thingy. Argh! I'm annoyed too, because I could've gone up the stairs in 9F, but I decided to look for more items.
At least you lost nothing. Going back up 9 floors is nothing. I just lost all my stuff to a pack of leveled up tanks! Fortunately there is this really easy dungeon that lets you level up equipment super fast, so losing my inventory is not such a huge deal anymore, though still a minor bother, as the easy dungeon isn't particularly exciting to play.
No, I meant before that. I'm in there looking for equipment, but I'm beginning to wonder if one of the conditions of this dungeon is that it has no equipment.
How's everyone doing in Shiren? There seemed to be quite a few people excited about the game leading up to its release, and Pix seems to be the only one other than myself who's talked about it since.
I'm once again cursing Normal mode. I'm on one I think is the tail end of the post-game story, but I have yet again lost all my equipment due to a careless mistake: After playing the tournament and not losing items when I lost, I assumed all of the post-game was reverted to Easy mode rules. Turns out I was painfully wrong and lost everything (nothing left in storage) to a pack of leveled up tanks. After hours of trying to fix this, I've given up on my normal file, which is very annoying, but after not playing for a couple weeks, I don't mind restarting Easy.
Content-wise, Shiren Wii absolutely overwhelms. But as far as balance goes, I think I found Shiren DS much better. Every step of the way was a pleasure in the original, while the new game on normal is quite flawed and extremely slow if you die at any point. Hopefully the post-game dungeons will be more fun when I get to them on Easy and actually have equipment. The Millenium Dungeon and the Tournament definitely have potential to be better than the original Shiren.
Sigh. Another thirty hours to go until I find out.
Haha, I figured you'd restart the game on Easy eventually. :3
I'm still stuck at the Interior section of the Mansion. Can you offer any tips on how to beat Sensei and the other bandits? I know you're supposed to move them onto the tiles, but I've already failed twice.
Yea, you have to lure a bandit onto one of the tiles and knock him out, then stand on the other two tiles yourself. You can't beat Sensei or the other guy, forgot his name, so don't even bother with them. I think spells and stuff will work on the bandits unlike normal bosses, so try a lightning scroll if you have one to start off so that you can get into position before they get back up.
If you have a particularly strong shield, you could use that character to lure Sensei and what's-his-name away from the tiles, perhaps. Basically I use the same strategy as for all bosses though: Save a bunch of healing items, Recover Staffs particularly since they're multi-use.
I just beat Centipede, and replaying it has been more fun than I expected so far, so I'll probably catch up with you today and may be able to offer more accurate advice. Honestly, I was considering loaning my Wii to a friend and asking him if he wanted to play through on Easy, but fortunately it hasn't come to that as I don't know how interested he is in the game and would probably be insulted by suggesting Easy, haha.
Ahhh okay, thanks, I didn't think about just placing one of them on a tile and standing on the others myself. D'oh. I'll try it again later today or tomorrow. Mega Man 10's been sucking up my time lately.
MM10 is good, but with the shop you can just breeze through it and then focus your time on more important things, like Shiren. I'm in the mansion now with some good equipment. At this rate I'll beat the game twice before you beat it once. Mwuhahaha.
Yeah, the shop makes it a lot easier. I'm on Commando Man's stage right now.
Argh, I gotta get back into Shiren. All these platformers (Super Metroid, NyxQuest, Kirby's Adventure, Mega Man 10) have been distracting me lately. D:
I've now beaten the game twice. Get with the program, Pix. It's a real pleasure playing on Easy this time. It's funny though because I had so many Revival Herbs that it was unnecessary after all, and I leveled up my equipment halfway to the max with Dragon Orbs (you'll learn about these in a couple levels -- neat concept, though a bit obscure to figure out). I think knowing how the game works in advance helped more than the Easy mode functions, actually. The only annoying part was not being able to skip cut scenes.
There is so much awesome stuff after the main story ends. I hope you don't keep the game shelved forever or get too bored by the early levels. Right now I'm in this contest where I can take one person through a series of rooms with increasingly stronger monsters, including quite a few I've never seen before, and if I make it through I get ridiculously awesome items. The first round you get a Joyous Herb which raises your level by one. I'm not sure if I get the same item every time (or if I even get an item every time once I've beaten a round once), but if so that'd be a super fast way to level up. By round six I got a sword for Sensei that is strength forty with tons of slots for extra abilities to be gained (again, a Dragon Orb feature you'll learn about soon). That's twice as strong as my two strongest swords!
I'm interested in this, I remember playing Pokemon Dungeon and liking it (Same Developer I know) so I'll try to pick it up when I'm not buying other games and saving up for the games I've preordered. I just got No More Heroes, Zack and Wiki, and Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow from Gamestop. I preordered the Monster Hunter 3 CC Pro Bundle in North America, Super Mario Galaxy 2, and Red Steel 2. But I'll try to make room for it! Also I'm impressed with your skills on the game. I like the game play (Once again coming from Pokemon) but I sucked at it
Oh Adam do you own 3 WHOLE GAMES FOR THE WII NOW (I'm just waiting to tell you the Wii is all you'll need as far as video games, always remember you win with your collection, man I miss that threads popularity.)
Geez. I feel guilty now. I gotta play this tomorrow, since I beat all of the robot masters in Mega Man 10 and I just returned All-Stars Racing to my rental store. :3
