Has any of you had any problems with your Wii discs that have scratches on them? I was inserting a Wii disc into the system when the disc accidently slipped out of my hand and fell. It got several scratches on it as a result but so far I haven't experienced any gameplay problems. Is there a good chance that the scratches will affect gameplay?
@ Don - no, if it works it works... it might freeze I guess, but that's rare. if it had too many scratches it wouldn't work but it takes a lot of scratches on a specific place to ruin it.
So ends a saga older than time itself. The World's oldest and fiercest army has been led to victory, and a lost generation is delivered from its fear of extinction. As the sun sets over the field of conflict the dinosaurs disperse, hoping never to set foot in this place a...
If you have problems, go to Game Crazy and get your disc repaired for 1 or 2 dollars( i can't remember), or go to Wal-mart and get your own disc fixer for $15 dollars. My Animal Crossing: City Folk game got scratched and it fixed it, otherwise a screen with Resseti would come up. If anyone knows where to get a little disc scratch fixer for GCN games... tell me plaesa. thanks:)
My Mario Kart disc, most likely from the Wii tipping over by over-excited dogs. It still works, but picking anything other than random causes a disc error message. Same with Brawl, but the stages that don't work are the worst ones anyways (besides Bridge of Eldin).

If your scratches are problematic, there's a kit you can buy at Radioshack, I think that will fix it. I've never tried it on Wii discs but it works well for CDs and DVDs.
In general terms, dust, light scuffing and radial scratches are pretty easy to polish out. Just apply a small amount of washing up liquid, toothpaste or Brasso (in increasing order of severity) and wipe with a fine cloth from the centre to the edge until it's clean. Give it a rinse, wipe dry, cross your fingers and give it a go.
Circular scratches can sometimes be dealt with this way as well, but you're less likely to succeed with them. This is purely due to the way the laser works; radial scratches can be skipped over, but circular ones tend to guide the laser beam off the correct path.
Cracks and scratches to the label side (beneath which the actual data lies) aren't worth trying to fix. Just bin the disk, lest you be tempted to play it and possibly damage your Wii in the process.
There really should be a service where you could replace faulty discs with new ones. As we already have paid the license to play the game, getting the software holder (the disc) shouldn´t cost much, somewhere around 3-5$ including postage should be enough. Discs suck and they wont let us do backup of them. A service should be available. A possible future solution could be that you in the store just buy the software holder, casing and manual, to actually play it you have to buy a license through the Nintendo Shop Channel. The disc you buy should be free from copy protection and easy to make backup of.
