Who has played these games? Never did bother with Harvest Moon (heard that they were similar), but figured I'd look into this game. Apparently Tides of Destiny just came out today, so I wanted to ask around for those who have played it. (or at least the series to get an idea) Also I guess what the differences are between this series and Harvest Moon's.

Harvest Moon is awesome~

Never played Rune Factory, and I was planning on picking up the one that just released (on PS3), but I heard it has next to no farming D:

Almost forgot about this thread...
Not really into farming anyway, did you ever get it yet?

I've played most of both series, and I much prefer Harvest Moon. Rune Factory is Harvest Moon with a half baked action RPG element thrown in, and a whole lot of farming taken out. So it's two half games rather than one good game.

Also, there's no real animals in Rune Factory, just monsters that look like Pokemon rejects.

So, to sum up, if you're not a fan of Harvest Moon, I don't recommend Rune Factory. If you are, it's a nice diversion, but one of that series is probably enough.

Having played Rune Factor 3, it's fun in it's own right, but like YellowChocobo, I was longing for more farming, so I may buy a Harvest Moon game yet.

I currently own Magical Melody Wii (with it's stupid waggle controls) and I liked how you could buy plots across the town.

edhe - which is your favourite Wii Harvest Moon?

For me it's Animal Parade, because I tend to prefer the animal raising part of Harvest Moon games, though I love the other two too.

Edit - sorry, just noticed that you only have the one so far.

To recommend to you then - if you prefer crops and buying more land etc, Tree of Tranquility. If you like HM animals, Animal Parade. The games themselves are roughly the same quality.

Thanks for the recommendation. That's not taking in to account the handheld games - I may hold out for Two Towns. Speaking of Harvest Moon, it isn't specifically the crop growing, it's the bit where you are actually living on a farm. Rune Factory 3 has you living in a tree with two (fairly small) fields, a wood hut and stable below it, Magical Melody has you building a home with fields scattered across the town (dependant on soil fertility), The Original SNES one, while being defining starts slow, and offers you little help in farming a whole field of crops. Not like in Friends of Mineral Town where you could enlist the help of the sprites. A Wonderful Life was probably my favourite game of the series - it had an interesting story line (which I never finished before foolishly letting go of it) and an interesting mechanic where you played the game throughout your character's life span. It made up for the small fields. Animal rearing was fully featured though, and there were some kerrazy characters.

I probably shouldn't be lecturing you on Harvest Moon, because I believe, you're pretty knowledgeable on the games yourself, but those are my thoughts on the games.

Going back to Rune Factory 3 (I don't know whether this is a new feature), I like the idea of crop rotation and being able to plant crops all year round if you visit certain areas, but the harvest moon games always had a certain flow in that you plant through spring, summer and autumn, then concentrate on other things during winter, when crops generally don't grow.

It's hard to say whether I'll buy another Rune Factory game again - I was bordering on buying the currently released (im Europe) Wii version (Rune Factory: Frontier), but never really knew which one to buy. At that time, I could have bought #2 on the DS, but decided against it for whatever reason.

I'll look up information about Rune Factory - Tides of Destiny to see if it's something that would interest me, but generally, I think Harvest Moon is more charming.

On a side note, I find the voice acting in Rune Factory 3 to be excrutiatingly twee. I wouldn't go as far as to say it's awful, but some of the voice acting, like Carlos' brofist speak, and Pia's strange high pitched giggling is pretty hard to listen to.

If there is any voice acting in subsequent Rune Factory games (and it's as low quality as RF3), I'm out.

Guess I'll look into Harvest Moon first then, kinda figured they were both very similar except RF was more maturish than HM....I dunno, don't really care about that part anyways. xD
Also seemed like Rune had more features that Harvest didn't have.
I'm gonna wait for a 3DS version though.
