Well.. uhm, I came through thinking that it's easy because for me it was easy ;p Probably i'm wrong and the difficulty was ok, as i said. I'm not a game designer, so i can only speak about my very personal gaming experience. Still i think, judging by what i read in user comments and critics reviews, that many felt like there was something which just went wrong in this game, and again, i'm not saying that the reason is to be found in the cinematics (too many, too cheesy) or other minor issues like the 1st person pixel hunting.
Too linear? Too simple? Too easy? I don't know but to me it's a 7.5-8 game.

it's refreshing to hear some reasonable criticism, so i tip my hat to you on that. i think linearity can be fun when it's done well, and in this game it's done very well. it matches the speed and flow that samus has and keeps things moving. my only problems are that the art direction and music took a hit, but in all honesty it's probably unfair to hold it against other m since the prime games had the very best art and music i've ever seen in a game.

^that's odd, because most metroid games are specifically designed not to have dangerous enemies outside of boss battles, to encourage you to explore more freely. i thought other m had ratcheted up the difficulty massively all over, and for the first time i found myself near death fighting outside of bosses. i don't know how you came through thinking it was easy, especially not when those green burrowing lizards show up.

i think the puzzles are simpler, but that doesn't mean easier. they were less fantasy based, so instead of solving some completely impractical puzzle way out of place on a space station to gain an item you instead just have to be observant and inspect your surroundings to find a way in. some of those items are extremely tough to locate and the challenge is still there.

My thoughts exactly
Such an under-rated game. The story elements don't always work, and the art direction isn't nearly as strong as the Prime games, but the gameplay is spot on; I really hope it sets the framework for future Metroid games.

Metroid Other M.

Metroid Other M isn't better than Prime but it is a better Metroid game. Metroid started out a third person platformer not a first person shooter. Still it doesn't seem right to me that both games would retail at the same price of 50 dollars. It took me close to 30 hours to complete Metroid Corruption and only 10 hours to complete Other M.

...in my pants.

Prime. I love the atmosphere, the detail, and the realism. it actually feels like I'm there. It's one of the few games that can truly get that right.

While I understand that sort of mentality, i really disagree with it. Otherwise i would have had to pay several thousand dollars for Oblivion. =D

Prime Trilogy > Other: M

Other M was good and all, but any chance of the day if given a choice I would take any of the primes before other M. They are very different beasts. And while Other M is a solid game, the Prime games are near masterpieces.

I never get the whole awesome atmosphere of the Prime series...for me Other M is too much fun to put down the Wiimote. And the hate on Other M is getting REALLY old, the series really needed a change from the FPS perspective.

Oh and other thing what's with everybody complaining about the First Person View on Other M? Oh i can't move on First Person, this game is ruined i don't know but in Zelda: Ocarina Of Time you can watch everything in First Person but you can't move, Banjo-Kazzoie was the same...but noooooo Other M is ruined for following an established path..LOL

meh!

I haven't even played Other:M, yet I know what my answer would be if I had. Prime, forever! That feeling of exploration and discovery in an alien world will never be beaten.

Prime is a trillion times better because, in Other M, DOORS DON'T OPEN WHEN YOU SHOOT THEM!!!
This is a disgrace to the Metroid franchise, and a blemish on its reputation that WON'T be easily removed.
How could Team Ninja DESTROY the Metroid lore with such utter disregard? Those aren't the doors I know and love.

I hope that was sarcasm, because I always had trouble opening the doors in Prime, but never in Other M. P:

Really? Most of the complaints people have towards the game are definitely justified, it isn't blind hatred. What's getting old is people saying they don't understand why not everybody completely likes it, or that if they don't like the controls they're missing the point. From what I've gathered most people have enjoyed the game, however in the least.

You deserves a hand sir, couldn't have said it better myself. Like the people complaining just feel like tearing apart a game for the sake of it. No we are all long time Metroid fans that have valid complaints about the game. And it frustrates us that the people that seem to love it blindly cannot give merit to our arguments because we are all "haters", and so our points and opinions are null.

the reason i want to argue when people criticize the game is because i know that the controls worked for me and i feel like they deserve to be defended. i understand full well that some people aren't going to be able to use them, but by the same token those people should understand that there are people who can use them. just because they're not the controls you would have chosen doesn't mean they're at fault for anything.

the only problem with them is that they seem to be at home with a niche of gamers that's too narrow, leaving a lot of metroid fans who are good at the prime games disappointed to find a game in a series they love that they can't comfortably play. they get frustrated and blow it out of proportion as if it's the game's fault rather than admitting that it's just a difference of taste (i'm not accusing you guys of that).

all i'm saying is that the controls are great for what they do, and if you have a problem using them it's more likely that it's the overall concept of the game, not the controls themselves, that you're taking issue with.

I'm not saying it's not a good game, lord knows how much time i have spend on Metroid Prime Trilogy BUT no i don't understand all the praise for a game that's too easy to get lost (i know i know that's the beauty of it) and the backtracking it's just too much.... i don't know, like i said on the survey in Club Nintendo, i'm just happy that the whole first person view is over, like it or not you have to admit it was getting old...

Yes, the Prime games got old. I'm glad Other M came out because it's the exact opposite of the Primes in terms of speed. I know some people may not like that, but I really wanted a change of pace. Would I like another Prime game? Sure, I'd buy it and enjoy it. Do I want another Prime game right now? Absolutely not.

If they make another Prime game, I'd want them to do a bit of condensing it, and speeding up the pace a little bit.
