Yup! I can also confirm that this is the legitemate response from Nintendo on the issue. Sounds to me like they just plan to condence the service a bit. Which means we can still hold hope for Smash, Kart, Yoshi's Island, Final Fantasies, etc, etc...

I find it very funny, that you Americans get no VC games for only two weeks and everyone is instantly in panic like "OMFG, Nintendo has abandoned the VC!!! No VC games anymore!!! R.I.P. VC 2009!!!". Here in Europe pauses like that are very common and of course Nintendo won't stop releasing VC games just like that. So, just relax, you probably get new VC games next week.

I'm an American and even I find this funny! Regardless of all the emails Nintendo got they'll probably release a VC game anyway on Monday.
Nothing like a good old-fashioned Nintendo canned response to make people feel better. I'm not sure why people thought the VC was just going to stop anyway. We knew they were focusing on WiiWare and DSiWare more lately. No reason to panic just yet.
...I received word back from Nintendo of America's senior director of public relations, Charlie Scibetta: "Each week Nintendo makes available a mix of Virtual Console, WiiWare and Nintendo DSiWare games. Combined, these services currently provide gamers with hundreds of fun and interesting downloadable games to choose from. There is no preset schedule as to how many games will become available in a given week, but many more are on the way via all of these digital delivery systems."

People were in a panic not because of the lack of a VC release this week but because of a fake email purporting to be from a Nintendo customer service rep claiming that the service would be discontinued. Panic would be a reasonable response had that email turned out to be true.
Inaccurate ≠ fake. I haven't seen that the original email was a fraud, but I'm glad to get word that it's most likely inaccurate. Any thoughts on whether they'll investigate further?
@Gabbo: But that was misinterpritation too, because that e-mail didn't actually say the VC was being canceled, just that focus was moving away from it. I think we all should've known THAT much already, based on the slowing releases of the past year.
My Backloggery Updated sporadically. Got my important online ID's on there, anyway. :P
"It is possible that Nintendo did not want to cannibalize Virtual Console sales, or sales of those WiiWare titles themselves, by making offerings on the same week. "
