"The BBC and Nintendo UK today unveil a new version of the popular BBC iPlayer on Nintendo's Wii.
First made available through the console's Internet Channel in April 2008, BBC iPlayer will now be available as a dedicated Wii Channel to provide Wii users with a new, richer experience of the BBC's TV and radio on-demand catch-up service.
The new Wii Channel is expected to be available from 12.01am on Wednesday 18 November.
Since BBC iPlayer first launched on the Nintendo Wii, there have been 900,000 requests for TV and radio programmes, and this new version of BBC iPlayer for Wii has been designed to deliver a better and higher quality experience, with a new full-screen user interface allowing the whole family to catch up on TV and radio together in the lounge."
Yep just tried it out seems really great !!! improved quality , always had to reduce the screen size before to get acceptable viewing , but now full screen and almost tv quality , seems to be streaming 100% better aswell , but only tried 10mins !! A first class job BBC
It sure is. I'm watching Ray Mears now, full screen, with next to no artifacting or pixelation. It's not full quality for sure, but it's more than watchable. YES!! Super Happy Machu, I got my iPlayer back. Wahoo!
just about to go sleep and i was distracted by the blue glow from my wii.
not watched a full programme yet but it seems to work well. no hiccups in playing videos or radio and great quality picture too. i don't watch TV in my bedroom but from now on, I'll be watching it on my Wii.
Edgey, Gumshoe, Godot, Sissel, Larry, then Mia, Franziska, Maggie, Kay and Lynne.
I'm throwing my money at the screen but nothing happens!
@Machu: Same here, love it. They've really well made it too. Great small fileseize. It doesn't even have the short reload after you resume from pause like the PC version has, it just starts playing again straight away. Doesn't even hang after being paused by the Home menu. My only complaint is that it doesn't appear to save where you're up to in a program if you decide to close midway through and come back to watch it later, like the PC version does. But it's a minor complaint. Other than that it seems pretty flawless. Nice that they've made it look pretty similar to the old iPlayer, it's easy to get around
Just to echo what you guys are saying, it's fabulous and very high quality. I'm astounded by the speed of the thing. Thanks beeb and Ninty We really have missed the iPlayer in our house, this is going to be used almost daily.
Although even if it does let me watch stuff, Australian download limits are so tiny compared to the rest of the world that I can't actually afford to watch anything...
just hope like hell our channels get off their ass and get this iView thing working for all channels and on free quota over all ISPs. Currently we have the ABC with iiNet iPrimus, Westnet, Internode and Adam Internet. ... but I doubt the commercial networks are going to bite until its full of ads and as unusable as their current online content and giants like Telstra will probably release it as a paid for optional extra but pretend they are being generous. Like that ad where they appear to claim that only their service has wireless routers and for "only $300 extra you can use the internet from any room in your house" Only on Bigpond!

still... I hope we get an iView channel
ABC Channel. They could just put all the BBC series they use anyway! Plus Spicks & Specs
QUEEN OF SASS
It's like, I just love a cowboy
You know
I'm just like, I just, I know, it's bad
But I'm just like
Can I just like, hang off the back of your horse
And can you go a little faster?!
Excellent, I'm surprised at the mid-week launch. I'll be downloading this tonight! Now if 4 and ITV join suit I'll almost be able to chuck my Freeview tuner!
