Man, at first I was going to reply saying that everyone was over-reacting, but as I started framing the situation I had to delete everything and start over. I really like NBA Jam back in the day, but the fact that, at least at first, the only way you can get Jam on PS3/360 is to buy NBA Elite means that that version of the game is a no-go for me, and the fact that the Wii version lacks online play means that I'm simply not interested in that version either. I guess that just means there is one less game I have to spend my limited money on.

-NBA JAM will launch on the Wii, as scheduled, on October 5. NBA JAM won recognition this summer as the best sports game at E3 and it’s a blast to play. In addition to the Wii version, we’re going to ship NBA JAM as a standalone product on the Xbox360 and PS3 in time for the holidays. Watch for more news soon on the exact timing of that release.
So, uh, yeah. Might want to wait on that Wii version purchase?
Talk about utter bull****. It's obviously going to have everything the Wii version has, plus online. Wouldn't be a bit surprised to see a few more exclusives too. I'm going to have a hard time buying anything EA related after this.
Nice "exclusive" EA. People said it would happen. They said that somehow it would get to the ps3/xbox and the wii version would get the short end of the stick. But I said, "Wait guys, it says exclusives! They wouldn't lie about that when they said it so many times!"
Trey Smith: Online is … well OK, we started at thirty frames per second. Everyone’s playing, everyone’s loving it, and that was about six months ago. Then Turmell came up and said, “It’s great! Everything is just like Jam… except for one thing” and we were all like, “What?” and he said, “Jam runs at sixty frames per second.” We were all like, “oh…” So it’s a complicated thing you know, it’s all about pushing it all down that tube just as fast except now we have to do it twice. We did it and that was a monumental success for the team because it now runs at a silky smooth sixty frames per second and it absolutely did make a big difference on the gameplay front. Once we made that jump, online all of the sudden became that much more difficult. We haven’t given up yet. We still have a few months to tie some things together. I’m not closing that door yet, but I’m gonna tell ya right now we are not there. We are not there, and we are not going to do it half-assed. We aren’t going to put it up, and it’s chunky, and it’s not Jam. The thing about the Wii is it’s really about four people hanging out in a living room. Especially with the gestures and the taunting that goes on, it’s just like the old arcades with four players standing at a cabinet. There’s that social multiplayer goodness that the Wii and NBA Jam do so well. That was one of the questions we asked ourselves, “Sixty frames or online? Which one will we really bet on?” and sixty frames absolutely improved the gameplay so that’s what we chose and that’s where we are at. I’m not giving up yet, but we are not there yet.
Interesting. I could understand that because Grand Slam Tennis ran at 30 FPS, but it's not like online would hit the framerate that badly. At the very least they could've made it run at 30 in online multiplayer. I still think they were just being lazy - the online capabilities of the Wii can't be so grossly inferior to the 360 and PS3... can they?
@pix Yes they can. Remember the Wii is just two GameCubes duct-taped together, to put it bluntly. But that's still no excuse for the NBA Jam devs 'cause they only had two people working on it. They could've at least asked Nintendo for help or something.
NBA Jam HD is officially fully-featured, that is, it includes the Remix mode and isn't just some download version of the game. Sorta already assumed, but now that Trey dude pixelman quoted is at it again.
I'll tell you, we're doing everything in our power to get as much on there as possible. I mean, we had online up. It was a really basic online feature set. We're trying to blow that out. And then you get Remix. We're trying to throw it all in there. Right now, I mean, we got this bomb dropped on us just a couple of days ago as well. So, we're shuffling to get everything together, but we got a great team. We got a lot of stuff up and working. We're going to polish it up, and we're gonna get it out there before holidays. And its really up to you. If you want to hang out with your friends and use gesture controls, you got it on the Wii. If you want to go online and you want that HD experience, you go on the PS3/360.
Man, Wii owners are totally getting screwed by EA.
It's more like EA screwed themselves with NBA Elite 11 and are in damage control mode. But really, who can say they're honestly surprised that NBA Jam is coming out on PS360?
I'm just glad that they've come out and explained their plans for it before the game is out so I know which version to get. Looks like it's 360 for me.

Yeah, @Panda's link really explains a lot. NBA Elite 2011 was severely buggy and they had already manufactured $60 million worth of discs which are now being dumped thanks to players' reactions to the glitchy demo. The videos are hilarious lol. So EA is now scrambling to make back that loss by releasing NBA Jam as a full retail release on the PS3/360 too.
But still I agree with WolfRamHeart. Wii owners are being screwed over by EA because they're getting a gimped version of a game that was originally intended for them. Plus, if you're a fan of the original NBA Jam but you only have a Wii (like myself) then your options are limited to A) suffer the gimped version, or B) pass on it. I don't want to do either of those.
