My wii died a month ago, went to Nintendo and got a new one for free in 15 minutes. It just died because... I don't know if i want to be honest with the cause. But however it was Nintendos fault that it bricked and not mine. I am not pirate. Btw bought my wii on release.
The Same thing is happening to me only it first occurred a couple months ago.... at first it would act picky about which wii games it would play, then it stopped reading them all together and only read Gamecube games....and no it reads nothing I've been holding over with WiiWare and VC

A friend of mine had his wii since it released and now he got a problem with it like he can go to every wii channel except "Wii Shop Channel" like right after he click on start, then the screen is just black and shows no picture any further, so i dunno whats wrong, it either got the wii overheated or just wont access to that channel anymore, so he cant really like download vc/wiiware games anymore, it really sucks and feels bad too.
@stuffgamer i have my reasons. I don't wanna hurt or badmouth Ninty in anyway hence i wont give the reason why my Wii crashed. Give me a reason and i will tell ya'll.
If your Wii is having trouble go online open an online support case and get the thing sent in; you're talking a couple of weeks turnaround, postage-paid and Nintendo are known to do minor repairs like lens cleaning (probably the problem affecting the SSBB guy since that was the first dual-layer disc release) at no charge.
they replaced my disk drive when i sent mine in beacuse i was having the same ssbb trouble at least thats what it said on the peace on paper when i got my wii back
@zane: My point was that you could've cut out most of that post and it would've read just fine, like so:
"My wii died a month ago, went to Nintendo and got a new one for free in 15 minutes. Btw bought my wii on release."
See? No talking around, because it didn't really need to be mentioned in the first place. Actually, I guess that was the point I MEANT to make, but didn't do a very good job of. Anyway, you should've either not mentioned it at all, or given more detail.
My Backloggery Updated sporadically. Got my important online ID's on there, anyway. :P
Has anyone had to replace the component cables on the Wii? My Wii turns on fine but won't display any sound or picture anymore. Do you think it might be the component cables?

I don't see how your cable could be a problem unless you regularly flex it or it's sustained some kind of obvious damage. Probably your graphics chip has fried. Probably worth sending it in!

Thanks for responding Sean. Yes, I don't think it's the cable either. I was just hoping it would be an easy fix. Well, there goes 75 bucks down the drain........

When you get your Wii fixed, you should invest in a surge protector, it might not have helped this problem, but it is a good idea to have one hooked up to all of your electronics.

I never leave home without one. I make sure all of my high priced equipt is always hooked up to a surge protector strip.

Just wanted to make sure. Hope you get your Wii fixed soon. Did you buy the Nintendo component cables? Just asking because I think I only paid 35 dollars for them, not 75. Have you tried hooking up the cables that came with the Wii, and see if that works, worth a shot since it is free.

I think he's referring to the repair bill from Nintendo since his Wii sounds like it's out of warranty rather than buying a new cable because that's probably not his issue...
My Wii is back up and running happy days return. I did find out what went wrong with my Wii apparently had a broken disk drive. Thankfully Nintendo had it replaced after I paid $85.
