So the CRT you currently have is SD or HD? As for me I'm rocking a Sony Wega 32" KD Trinitron. I baught it brand new in 05', not exactly sure which model is though, but it looks exactly like this
With Component cables(like you said) and adjusting the picture settings a bit you get one gorgeous looking picture hey? There isn't one Plasma on the market that can match the motion of this baby It really makes a difference I can't give mine up for No HDTV right now, damn you wii And good luck on getting the 40" That's awesome that it has ProgressiveScan, but it's not Widescreen...BUT, i'd rather have progressive Scan for Wii games anyways than Widescreen. ...whaaa, I wish my TV had PS!
By the way....What about this model? http://www.amazon.com/Sony-KV-32HS420-32-Inch-Trinitron-HD-Re... It's seems that it's 4:3 and has progressive scan not to mention HD. Usually HD CRT's have a fixed lower end 1080i Res. If I could find one of these I'd definitly drop the cash and get rid of my current Wega just for the progressive scan
CRTs are so much better for displaying anything that isn't HD. The only reason I don't use them is the inconvenience, they're just too big and heavy and I've moved home a lot in the past few years.
I've never tried a plasma though, I'm just talking about LCDs here.
The difference between Plasma and LCD is night and day. LCD's should be banished from the HDTV World
I find your opinion fascinating, since Plasma is generally considered to be garbage/the poor man's HDTV. I'm not really sure why LCD is preferred... I know Plasma has the burn-in problem. I think I'll do a little research...
LOL Burn in is a thing of the past. The only thing you have to worry about is IR(image retention) but that goes away. Plain and Simple, Plasma offers superior motion, Color and Black levels. While LCD's inferior on all levels although their blacks have been getting better. LCD's also have viewing angle problems, especially LED's(overpriced rubbish)
Plasma's only downside is that they have image glare and IR. Glare isn't a problems for me as I have a CRT and dont play games in the beaming sun light. there's no window beaming on my TV anyways, since it's behinde me TV. And IR goes away, and each set depends.
Anybody who choses an LCD over a Plasma is uninformed and flat out bug nuts Yes burn in exsisted years back, that's why evreybody chose LCD for gaming because they were scared of it happening. Yet everybody knew that Plasma offered superior PQ. But to each their own, if you like watching movies and games on an inferior technology than go for it.
I actually did do that research I said I was going to do and found out that basically there's not much difference. Plasma has its advantages, as does LCD. However, these advantages have been shrunk down to next to nothing as both technologies have progressed. As for viewing angle, my LCD actually has a near 180 degree viewing angle - as long as I can see the front of the TV, I can see the picture on it perfectly. What I do know for sure is: Anybody who chooses a CRT over a Plasma or LCD is uninformed and flat out bug nuts Especially that "I can't tell the difference between SD and HD / DVD and Blu Ray" crowd.

LOL Man.....Your 'research' i'm guessing is reading info online, instead of actually seeing in person and trying the stuff out for yourself. How is somebody bug nuts for chosing a CRT display strictly for Wii games and Retro titles? Wii games are 480p and even 480i(rarely)...You realise Wii titles look and perform better or CRT, let alone SDTVs and EDTVs?
If I was were just strictly watching Blurays/DVD's or playing PS3 games than I'd get a 46" 1080p or 50" Plasma.
And what you do mean there's 'not much difference' are you kidding me? For example my cousing just returned his Samsung 1080p LCD in for a Panasonic 1080p 50" V10 plasma and he was blown away by the difference. I've seen enough for myself to know. LCD's are getting better regarding black levels, but they can't touch the color and motion of a high end plasma.
LCD's are only decent for a computer monitor...Then again if they actually made "23" 1080p plasma computer monitors I'd so be down. For now I have a 23" 1080p samsung and while it's nice. the color, blacks and motion(again) arent CRT or Plasma good.
