I just got a Toshiba 22AV600U and I played the monster hunter demo today and I had some lag in certain places. Not input lag with the controller but motion. Will component cables fix this?
Any HDTV you play the Wii on there will be some type of lag, even if it's very minor. That's why I game on a 32" Sony Trinitron CRT SDTV(with component cables). Perfect Color, Very deep Black levels and perfect Motion, and zero Lag because they're no upscaling.
LCD's on the otherhand arent up to snuff yet. Plasma's are your best bet for the closes thing to match the PQ of a crt. And you're not using component cables? get on that bro! You'll get 480p, a sharp clear picture, better color and better brightness. I'd imagine that would help reduce Lag a tiny bit, but i'm not too sure.
The Wii is native 480p (856x480 or 640x480) These HDTV's sets that are 720p(1280x720) usually are fixed resolutions at '1366x768' which are 720p LCD Resolutios and larger sized Plasma's....OR there's 1024x768 for smaller sized plasma's. Then obviously there's the native resolution(and not fixed like 720p sets) 1080p Sets.
I don't know what resolution your LCD is, but I'm guessing it's around 720p. Either way, the Wii wasn't designed to be played on HDTV since it's not HD. 480p sets are dead in the water, and if they made new 480p plasma's I'd so be on that. Since I'm missing out on Progressive scan and WideScreen.
Anyways, you get lag because the TV has to process 480p being upscaled to HD, and when that happens pressing buttons or weather using motion controls wont be 1:1/dead on based on what you press or do. Personally I'm not a fan of playing the Wii on HDTV's becaues of this, and because the upscaled image ect. If I were you I'd get a 32" CRT FullScreen SDTV, and use component cables. That, or get a Plasma. Also all HDTV's handle lag differently, Plasma's have less. But it all depends on the scaler.
It's all annoying and confusing though hey? Once the Wii2 hits, 1080p will be the norm and there wont be any of this lag crap or upscaling.
I think I decreased this by a lot. I took off the noise reduction and it seems playable now. It's not perfect but it looks good! Should I still get some component for a better experience?
of course you should get Component cables, that shouldn't even be a question. Do you want a clearer/sharper Picture? Along with better color and a brighter image? if you so, then yes go out pronto and get one. I can't stand gaming on the wii if i were to use composite, the quality is horrible. Also buy the official NIntendo brand by the way. And yes there is a way to play lag free, but the device cost about to $2000 which is ridiclous.
There is no more lag from what I can tell so I am good. This tv looks a lot better than my CRT ever did. I've always wanted a 19" flat screen and now I got one. I'll buy some component cables when I go get Monster Hunter... guess im not getting a Classic Controller Plus.
with VC games you get progressive scan, so yep that's definity a benifit. Basically progressive scan makes games look even more crisp/clear and run at full frames compared to interlaced SDTV sets. If you think your TV looks better than a high end CRT regarding color, black levels and especially motion than you're bug nuts buddy ;p jk Your TV has the upper hand regarding resolution, Widescreen and progressive scan and that's it Wait until you get component cables, you'll be much happier
I had the same problem, so I moved it to my dinky 16" SDTV. I made this thread before, a long time ago, and I heard lag isn't a problem if you get the component cables, but I still haven't got them. I don't care what it looks like as long as I'm playing good games. Without controller problems, of course
I'm going HD once the Wii2 hits... A 50" 1080p 3D Plasma will do just fine
But for now I'll stick with my 32" Sony trinitron Wega CRT for gaming and movies. On the side I have a 23" Samsung 1080p LCD screen which I use for my computer. I've tried out the PS3 on it using DVI(same thing as HDMI) and 1080p games look gorgeous on it resolution wise...Motion(especially)color and black levels arent up to snuff as my CRT though but this is LCD we are talking so it's no big suprise. But ya, the one thing about HD Computer LCD monitors is that they have TERRIBLE scalers in them....playing 720p PS3 games on my 1080p samsung looks like garbage and blown up. playing 1080p games such as virtual tennis on the other hand look crystal clear. The same thing goes for the PS3 menu, it's all in 1080p and it looks amazing. Obviously to appreciate 1080p you really need a large set and it all depends on how close you sit anyways.
Anyways, the Wii2 I have a feeling will be coming out Nov 2011....If not, then Nintendo for the first time will breaking the typical 5 year code
Get component cables and set your TV to EDTV(480p) NOW. Playing Wii on an LCD without them shouldn't be done.
And Donatello, i had no problems with lag or ghosting when i played the Wii with component cables and an 1080p TV set on gaming mode and it looked great. So not all TV's share that problem like you say.
There he goes, Firkraag. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die. - My VGscore

Agreed; I've always been annoyed by how few people recognize the areas in which HD TVs are just now catching up to standard TVs. The Wii really does look perfect on a high-end tube based TV .
I had that setup myself, until my standard TV finally died, and I was forced to go ahead and enter the HD world earlier than desired (this was just a couple of months ago). In the end, though, I'm very satisfied with my new TV, and I went for one that suits the Wii very well: plasma (so almost non-existent input lag, deep blacks) at 720p (so not as much upscaling is required). After I spent a few days screwing around with its settings, the Wii looks mighty nice on it, with my favorite game, Mario Galaxy, looking more gorgeous than ever.
Having 16:9 for once is also a treat. That being said, though, a high-end CRT really is the way to go for the Wii if you want the perfect experience across all VC games as well. The N64 and SNES games I play take a whole lot of settings adjustments in order to look remotely as natural as they did on a standard set.
Twitter is a good place to throw your nonsense. Wii FC: 8378 9716 1696 8633 || "How can mushrooms give you extra life? Get the green ones." -
Really? It does on my friends Plasma. What type of TV are you using, because that's just weird.
It doesn´t have anything with wich TV I use. It´s my PAL Wii that doesn´t output progressive scan for most of my VC games. Seems to be all but three. SMBLL, Kirby64 and Yoshis Story. If I feel like it I will investigate in the subject. According to Wii Shop Channel, Sonic1 shouldn´t be working at all!!? It does. Found something about entering the vc games instructions, inserting the nunchuck, press Y+A+1 or 2 to enter/toggle a component interlaced mode. Will try it whenever I feel like disconnecting my Wii from the zero lag, instant response crt to the one year old major laggy Sharp HDTV.

I've played my Wii in the following ways: 480i, Composite cables, 27" SDTV Phillips 480i, Composite cables, 32" LCD 720p/1080i 60Hz Vizio 480p, Component cables, same Vizio TV 480p, Component cables, 46" LCD 1080p 120Hz Samsung
I only ever noticed any lag (input lag) playing on the Vizio with the composite cables. I've never had any problems after picking up the Component cables.
Also I think most of my VC games output in 480i - when I load the game, the screen will flicker and then display the status bar where it shows that it's now outputting in 480i.
