ok, so i got my demo disc... and it's really tough. but i like it thus far. at this point, i don't think i'd spend 50 on it... but i don't know that i wouldn't. i'll spend more time with it before i make my decision. anyway, that's not what this was about.
i've noticed that while the world itself seems to be of a decent size... the actual playable land you can traverse seems about half the size of Ocarina of Time's Hyrule Field. translation: it's tiny. it's split into VERY small areas with annoying loading times between each one. i suppose that may be the payoff for the high graphical quality, but it's seriously irritating. it's my one major concern, though. does anybody know if the retail game will be like this? if it's all connected and one huge world in the game, it may be a winner for me. if this is just something for the demo, then i'm fine with it. but if the full game has such a small landmass that's actually usable, then i think i'll pass.
anybody know anything?

It's mission based. Each mission takes place in levels set up like the demo's level.

Yep. Don't judge it by the demo though, it's a awesome series people just have the wrong idea about it. Do you have a PSP? You can find MH games for $20, you should give them a shot if you think MH3 is too much.

i don't have a PSP. i probably will try it. it seems like it would be pretty enjoyable once you got used to it, and i have a friend who will probably split the price with me (he LOVES the series) so i may spend $25. still, it's a bummer it wasn't the huge open world i was expecting.

Ah, okay. Yeah, when you play it, just take it for what it is, not what you thought it would be. As for the big open world, you'll learn pretty fast that that would be annoying. Chaseing a flying monster around a Zelda sized world = not fun.

OK I have been trying the demo as well and is there anyway to tell how much health the monster has? Is it the yellow bar underneath your health? If so I must be the worst hunter in the world, I seem to be hitting the thing, even knocking down and back, but it is recognizing any health reduction on the yellow bar if that is indeed what it is. And on the first mission do you have to kill all the annoying baby things or just mommy? If it is the total health of all of them that may be my problem.

Darn you Nintendo, my backlog is already out of control and you are just making it worse with these new game announcements!!!!
I was so excited for this game until I played the demo. The combat system in there is one of the worst you can find in a game. All of your attacks are always clunky and slow no matter what class you pick and theres no lock-on feature so you have to keep turning your camera around constantly. So yeah, I was very disappointed.
@Ste: The yellow bar is your stamina, you need it to run and dodge. The only way to tell if the monster is almost dead, is by physical motions they do (limping, broken horns, etc.).

Thanks Popyman, I was hoping I wasn't that bad of a hunter . Also was that written anywhere in the little pamphlet or am I just blind? Very possible by the way.
