if you haven't played a metroid game before, i'd say probably go with Super Metroid first. while Prime isn't quite an FPS, if you don't like them and aren't sure you like metroid, it probably won't change your mind,

I had a fantastic time with Metroid Prime 3, enjoying it every bit as much as all the other Wii classics. So I bought Metroid Prime Trilogy on day one, but until now I haven't gotten into it. Perhaps you can have too mcuh of a good thing and maybe MP3 was enough for me. I didn't own a Gamecube so never played one and two. And to be honest I don't think I ever needed to after MP3.
That's only my experience so don't slag me off. I just want to give some helpful advice.
I have really fallen for the Metroid series. Atleast the 2D ones. Super Metroid, Metroid Zero Mission, Metroid 2, Metroid Fusion, Metroid: Confrontation demo. have all been great. I had bought Metroid Prime 1 and 2 for the GCN, Kinda got bored with the 1st one. I'm also hoping the Trilogy I bought will be more fun with Wii controller.
Since the Trilogy has been discontinued it looks like the price went up online for it. If you can find it local for about $50 new. So you can't loose too much money if you don't like them and want to sell it off again.
Since Metroid: Other M has 2D and 3D, I already have that on pre-order
I agree that buying Super Metroid first is a solid idea. Low cost, convenient to grab from the Wii Shop Channel, and still one of the best 2D action/adventure games available.
As for Metroid Prime, it's a pretty safe buy if you can find a copy. The games are still FPS but have more focus on exploration and getting around the environment than on action/combat. While you could save cash and pick up the GameCube version to see how much you like the game, buying Metroid Prime Trilogy is probably worthwhile because: (a) it gives you access to all three games with improved Wii controls. (b) if you do like the series, it's the best possible way to experience the games. (c) trade/resale value is good, especially if you live in an area where it's out of print but still available with a bit of effort.
Thanks, everyone. 1) I am finding the Metroid series interesting 2) I will pick up Super Metroid first 3) I've actually played Battlefield 1942 a lot. I'm gradually ending my fear of FPS games.

I have been very into Metroid Prime Trilogy and it is the first experience I have had since the original NES version when I was a kid. It is definitely different than most FPS, as the main focus is on exploring and finding power ups, and the Wii controls for it are truly great. To get these 3 games for $50 was a steal.
I beat super metroid about two weeks ago and this game was simply amazing. my next purchase will most likely be trilogy. yet, I am more looking forward to other m, I think. also, I would like to be able to play the GBA titles through virtual console.
