I'm a mario party fan, but I was a little dissappointed in 8. Do you think they will make another mario party, and if so, what would you like to see in it???
For me: 1. more characters 2. more boards/better boards 3. online play 4. better use of the wii remote
I don't believe online play would make much sense for a Mario Party game. It's a game tailored specifically to local multiplayer, and then there's the inevitable problem of dropped connections when it takes an hour to play through a board. If they did include some WF feature, it would do well to be some extra mode with different, abbreviated play rules, sort of like the great Duel boards in Mario Party 3.
I could also care less about more characters -- they've covered the basics from the Mushroom Kingdom, and the last thing I'd ever want is for it to become a mismatch of characters like Smash. Better use of the Wii Remote is crucial, since it seems like MP8 came out to early in the Wii's life for them to have gotten the hang of it. They should take a cue from Mario Party DS, which handled the balance between buttons and touchscreen quite well, and was generally one of the best MP games in a long time.
Twitter is a good place to throw your nonsense. Wii FC: 8378 9716 1696 8633 || "How can mushrooms give you extra life? Get the green ones." -
I see your point with the Wi-fi. ANd your right, the games would take to long. But I think if they just made the duel mode or minigame mode have online capabilities it would be really fun. About more characters, your right they covered the basics. But as far as covering the mushroom kingdom, look at supermario sluggers, there are plenty more they could add.
WiFi support would work as long as Wii Speak support is included. Wii Speak would help with the camaraderie. The length of games might be a problem, but there is a solution!
The game is currently tooled around having four local players. Four is the magic number because that's the maximum number of controllers that was supported on the N64, GameCube, and now the Wii. If the game supported more players (say, 4-8), it would be feasible for players to exit in the middle of a game. Of course, there's always the old standby of inserting computer control when a player disconnects.
Obviously the per-turn game would need to be streamlined to prevent that many players from taking an ungodly amount of time. But I think the series is overdue for a streamline anyway. I have yet to play MP8, but the difference between the original MP and MP5 is rather interesting. MP5 spent so much time pondering on each turn that it could get a bit frustrating. The number of options needs to be reduced, with more of an eye toward reacting to choices as they are given rather than holding on to options for a long length of game.
That would be really cool! Playing with 8 other people would be awesome. The only problem I see would be the fact that you would have to make 8 person mini-games, which might be hard??
Kizzi, as far as I'm concerned, one of my predictions is that we'll hear something either at E3 or soon before it. This isn't a baseless "rumor". My predictions are, for the most part, well-founded.
I can't wait, personally. Mario Party 9 should definitely add more creative mini-games to use the Wii Remote instead of so many "hold sideways, press 2 to jump" mini-games. More creativity on the part of Hudson is sure to surface especially with the likes of MPDS taking advantage of the touch screen as was touched on. I can just see some survival mini-games (push people off, be the last one standing kinda things) would be so much fun. Those have always done well (even going back to the famous, Bumper Balls).
And yes, online can work but they'd need to approach it VERY carefully. Wii Speak would be simply awesome. Honestly, it would make for such an enjoyable experience and it would probably be one of the best Mario games to be best-suited for it. It would be a risk, but a risk that could work well with enough planning. And honestly, they've had enough planning. Not JUST when compared with the span of time that we've been without a MP since MP8 but think about it: Look at all the experience they now have with online play on WiiWare. Certainly, that's been a "testing ground", if you will, and certainly some of their online experiences turned out better than others and they've been able to learn from their mistakes. Keep in mind, also, that they've tried including online play in Deca Sports 2. If that doesn't tell you that they are, indeed, thinking about including online play, I dunno what does.
I can easily see it being mini-games only but if they could include boards somehow (maybe having Wi-Fi specific boards that are frenetic and fast-paced) then this could easily shape up to be the best MP. And yes, 4 is the magic number. They tried 8 only in MP7 and it was a risk. The 8-player mode was.. interesting but it was a bit lacking.
There's ample reason to suggest that they are, indeed, planning it. Just look at how much Mario Party 8 and Mario Party DS has sold! All in all, I'm VERY optimistic with regards to the next entry. Mario Party 8 had great boards and I'm sure they'll add new characters (could some characters like Shy Guy finally make an appearance?!) but if they create new boards that are as unique as some of the ones in MP8 (see: King Boo's Haunted Hideaway) and even some of the best ones from previous entries in the series, then it would be a worthy successor.
@thewiirocks: At least in MP5 the CPU's all went at once.
Better minigames and improved speed of the boardgame is all that could make me interested. The series could really benefit from an overhaul of rules and gamemechanisms.

I agree. Mario Party was a good idea, but it's way too long. Smaller boards with fewer paths would be good. Quicker, if not automatic, rolling. Quicker mini-games without much time wasted getting into them (i.e. no spinning wheel used to dramatize the game selection). Warioware-style games where you don't get instructions (though not as fast). There are a lot of seconds that could be shaved off, which would add up.
My favorite Mario Party is 2. I believe it had the best of everything. I'd be perfectly happy if they just remade that one with better graphics and new controls (note: the "better graphics" point makes this NOT a suggestion for another NPC game; only MP4-7 could be one of those)! At least, I would hope that the new game was designed better, like that one. Mario Party 8 gives way too little opportunity to plan ahead for my tastes, so I think they should tone the randomness down a bit.
