Alright so I got a wii from a friend after my old one broke and all my games except Mario Kart (2008) worked. So I cleaned it and it still never got past the Title screen, the music and animations play, the Wii motes work (I can use the wii home button) but pressing A does nothing. I got fed up and just got a new copy, and I have the SAME PROBLEM! I cleaned the disc, checked for scratches and all that and I still can't play.

@FeilongFaye It could be a similar problem that happened with Smash Brothers Brawl. Mario Kart wii just may not run on your Wii because some games can't run on the older models. So if you want to play it that badly then just contact Nintendo Customer Support and see if thats the case. As if it is then you can ship them your Wii and they will either clean it, or they will ship you a brand new one for free. Both being free but so far I saw its only the case with the ones that can't run Super Smash Brothers Brawl

@FeilongFaye I have no idea what that first response was on about. All Wii games should run on all Wii models. Simple as.

Go to the system menu and check what version of the system is installed. It may require updating.

Has the system been modified to run unauthorised applications? If it had then that could be interfering with system update process.

Try resetting the system to factory default.

You guys had me at blood and semen.

What better way to celebrate than firing something out of the pipe?

Nothing is true. Everything is permitted.

@gcunit Do some research. Back when Super Smash Brothers Brawl first released it wasn't able to run on most of the Wii consoles. This was fixed on newer models but older Wii's couldn't run the game. So to fix this Nintendo had it to where if your Wii couldn't play Smash brothers Brawl, you could send the Wii in for free and either they would fix your console, or send you a brand new one for no cost at all.

@patbacknitro18 That's a different problem. That's about the Wii being unable to read dual-layer discs, which Mario Kart Wii is not. (I have had that problem, incidentally.) In this case there is no error message and the game is starting up fine, but is unresponsive for some reason.

I don't have a better answer though. Considering that this problem is occurring with multiple discs, I would guess that there is an issue either with the Wii console, or with the game's save data.
