I own the actual Ninja Gaiden Arcade machine. I have also downloaded it for VC Arcade and the message states the material is LICENCED to me and not mine to keep(paraphrased). How long am I to keep it? Is it removed at some point? I don't understand how that works.
It's the same as those games from Steam work, they license you the right to play it, but you don't own it at any time, basically I believe it's a way to tell you: "we can discontinue support for these games and we're not liable if you get all sad and mad about it".
From what I understand it is licensed to you for as long as you own it. That means that you can't sell or give it to anyone since the license isn't transferable. Unless you do that, there is no end to the license that you have for that exact copy/code of Ninja Gaiden.
It's a legal thing they have to put in there, sort of like at the beginning of a movie on DVD. Technically, you aren't supposed to let other people watch it with you or borrow it since that is considered Public Broadcasting and Distribution. It's just a way for the lawyers for these companies that make billions of dollars to be asshats to the little guy. Supposedly by protecting the companies from IP theft. As an aside, these Mom and Pop Video Stores that go to Walmart or Best Buy and stock up on DVD's when they are on sale are breaking the law by renting them, they are supposed to go through the distribution centers and pay extra (during the day of VHS it was like $100 a copy) for the videos to pay the license fee to rent them out.
I am the one you despise. I am he who says what you really deep down know but are affraid to admit. I am the Anti-Fanboy, the crusader of truth in a world built on your lies.
