Yea, I like melancholy, too, and there are times where it worked for me, but it was just so unrelentingly dark that it bored me. Even a series like Metroid (how's that for coming back to the topic), which doesn't have an ounce of humor in it, avoids being too dark by having enemies and surroundings with bright, vibrant colors.

I'm probably harder on Twilight Princess in retrospect than I was when I actually played it, though. I liked it well enough to finish once. And yea, I agree with everything else you said, and fortunately it looks like Skyward Sword might solve all your concerns and mine, if the short E3 demo is representative of the game as a whole.
