Better you than me. I've tried playing through MP1 three times on the Game Cube (with varying degrees of seriousness) and every time I gave up at the $#@%)#$ Phazon Mines. I wonder if I'll do any better this time!

(Right now I've got the Gravity Suit and I'm about the explore the wrecked freighter, if I remember the game's sequence well enough. Taking a short break, though, in favor of Fallout 3. I'll return to MP1 after I'm bored of Fallout in 5,000 hours.)

You've never beaten the Phazon Mines? How far into them do you remember getting, and what held you up?

Hopefully you'll conquer 'em this time with the two hundred billion times better controls.

I was of the understanding that this game used a gimpy waggle interface, and that the GC controls were better in every conceivable way?

@NotEnoughGolds: Hahaha, where'd you hear that? The new controls are incredibly smooth and intuitive. There's a reason why Trilogy's score is a 91/100 on Metacritic.

If you like incredible deals and incredible games, go buy this compilation.

Yeah I was just kidding, I obviously have this game already.
I was just ripping on the second opinion on http://www.gameinformer.com/NR/exeres/7AA279BE-4865-4C3A-B0D7... , discussed in the other Trilogy thread.
And I give MPT a 300/100, screw Metacritic.

O_O

Wait, a professional gaming site said this? Granted, optional GameCube controls would've been cool, but saying the new controls detract from the experience (and calling them gimpy and waggly) is nothing short of ridonculous!

Just got the power bomb and reached the second save station in the Phazon Mines. How'm I doing Brutus?

Ha, can't remember. I THINK I got the power bomb, but can't remember for sure. You're probably near (or even past) my record. Good job!

Finally got the super bomb and at 44%ish. Those "elite" hunters are pretty easy...at least when there are only 1 or 2 at a time. We'll see what happens if/when more show up on the screen at once.

Are the elite ones the huge ones which hold that glowing phazon (?) ball in their hands? Is there a fast way to zap those? I just keep switching beams and eventually manage to kill them. Just wondering if there is a faster way. They don't seem that dangerous (don't do much damage) but they are slow and tedious to kill.

Put your analyst on danger money, baby.

Where to scan what?

Just keep playing. The hints system will kick in and tell you where you need to go. Spend some time exploring. Bring up the map and enter rooms you haven't been in yet. Re-explore old ones to use technology you didn't have before. You're missing out on all the enjoyment of the game if you don't want to explore. The hints system will kick in before you spend too much time wandering aimlessly anyway.

Also: gamefaqs.com. Pull up a walkthrough and search for the item you want. It's easier than posting here every time you can't find something.

Agreed. and collect as many missile expansions as you can. You can hear them when close, investigate, see if you can get it, and if not make a note in your brain and come back when you have the required ability. Missile expansions are essential to making the game easier as you'll need as many as possible in the latter stages of the game. If you can get to 200+ you are dong good. I can't wait to get this tomorrow, YES!

Ah, I'm too caught up in poker to play this game as much as I'd like.
I did play some last night though, and just got the space jump boots.
Damn the black booster-ball morph ball looks badass.

A question for those currently playing... Can you take screenshots in 1&2?

I read somewhere that you can. Haven't verified it myself though.
