Somehow I think it could happen; for the month of August is quite a good month if you're a Metroid fan!

I'd say so. Since both Metroid: Other M and Super Mario Galxy 2 are coming out in 2010, they would want to space them out. SMG2 will probably come out Holiday 2010 and Metroid in August.
Galaxy 2 seems more likely to be a first or second quarter release. They said it's practically done and just weren't releasing it due to there already being a big Mario release this holiday. I don't know if Nintendo would hold back the game that long just for artificial reasons, but maybe so. I wouldn't want my big holiday game to be a straightforward sequel.
Of course, I'm more excited for Other M, so if that came out early in the year instead, that would be fine. But Nintendo did say multiple times they were not satisfied with the amount of releases this year, so I'm hoping we'll see a big title early 2010 like we did in the first and second quarters of the first two years of the Wii.
I'm playing Super Metroid for the first time and am completely stuck, so I wont be buying any more Metroid games until I finish the SNES version, if I finish it at all that is, there is this room filled with water and a pillar in the middle with a missile upgrade on top of the pillar, the bottom of the pillar can be passed under by placing a mine at it, but I can't jump up or across to the next door.

Thanks, good to know I can leave that area for now, there was another area that you could dive into lava but I guess I need another upgrade before I can access that, so far all I have is the Ice Beam and bomb upgrade that opens yellow doors, a good game so far just a bit lost at the moment.
If you are ever stuck in Super Metroid, you are probably in the wrong room. Don't assume that because you can see an item you can reach it, or you'll never get anywhere.
Interesting information. It seems likely. Maybe it will be released around my B-day in 2010 (probably not lol)
