Hi, we have been given a second hand Wii Resorts Sports Pak with Wii motion plus. It has no games with it. My son is 5 & wants to do dance games, we have tried Just Dance and it can't read it...... do we need a different console or is it the motion plus bit? I've no ideas as we've never owned a console of any kind. Please help! Thanks

MotionPlus won't make a difference - you can leave it attached whether the game you're playing uses it or not.

When you say it can't read it, do you mean the console won't read the disc? Check whether the disc has any scratches and the you're inserting it the right way up (I've made that mistake before...). If that doesn't help, check that the console and disc are from the same region - the Wii is region locked which means that European consoles can only play European games, American consoles can only play American games, etc.

Also make sure that it's a Wii disc, not a Wii U disc. The Wii U was the console Nintendo made after the Wii, but because their names are similar they sometimes get mixed up.

@SueOwl If you post some pictures of the console, the accessories and the game, then we might be able to help you. To post pictures, just take some with your phone, then copy them to your PC or laptop, and then upload them to this site: https://postimages.org/

For each picture you want to upload, select the resulting "Direct Link" and copy that, and paste it in a comment here, with the image command, like so:

[ img ]put link to picture here[ / img ]
(you'll have to remove all the spaces before and after "img" and the slash sign inside the brackets, or it won't work. but I had to do it now, because otherwise, it wouldn't have displayed the command)

Then we'll able to immediately see the pictures, instead of having to go to an external website to view them.

Yeah the motion plus shouldn't make a difference. It's most likely scratches. Is it definitely a Wii game. If it's one of the newer just dance games, it might be a Wii U game(blue boxes) which won't work on a normal Wii.

Hi, thanks all so far, the box says PAL and the game is Wii and PAL. I'll attempt some photos 🤞

@SueOwl You almost got it right...

the line with the posted picture should have looked like this:

Except without the spaces in between the brackets, and then you'll get this:

If you edit your previous comments like I now showed you, we can instantly see all the pictures.

On a side note: well, it's definitely a normal Wii alright, and that is also a Wii game, so I guess there's two possible things going on here, which is either the disc is damaged, or the Wii's disc drive is broken or dirty.

Does it make weird, clicking sounds when the disc is inserted? Oh, and by the way: if the Wii is standing upright, then the disc must be inserted with the picture side to the right, so the readable underside of the disc should face left.

Now, if the drive is broken, then the console is in need of repairs, but if it's dirty, you can look for a Wii cleaning disc on Amazon, or in any game store that still supports Wii, so probably a retro game store, if there's any in your area.

@SueOwl See? Not that hard, once you know how. Now, if you just edit all the other comments, with the edit button, and then just adding the same thing that you did with your previous comment, then we can see all of the pictures.

I'm an idiot! Disc in wrong way round 🤦‍♀️

What do I need to make sure any games have on them for them to work on this?

@SueOwl Seems like you already have all you need. Except you've only got controllers for one player, so if you want to play with more people, then you need to get more sets of wii remotes and nunchucks, so these:
Untitled
You'll need one set for each player, so if you want to play four player games, you'll need three more.
Good games to play with 2 or more people are Mario Party, Wii Party, Wii Game Party, Smash Bros, and any other kind of party game.

Do make sure that all Wii remotes are motion plus, so they're compatible with all games. Motion Plus is easily recognized by the bit of text on the bottom of the Wii remote controller itself that says "Motion Plus". You can either get them new or second hand. They're pretty sturdy, so you don't have to get new ones if you don't want to spend that kind of money.

P.S.

If you move the mouse pointer over a comment, then you'll see that there's a reply button next to a user's name. You should use that, so people get notified that you're replying to their comment. And that's also where you can find the edit button for those photos, by the way...

@ThanosReXXX thanks! No doubt I'll be back on here at some point. I appreciate your help!

Wargoose

Yeah you should be all good to go. It usually says which controllers are compatible with a game on the back of the case.
