I know I know, I'm a little late in the game to be busting out one of my little teeny weeny mini Reviews about a Title that was released during the Wii's Launch. But damn was I surprised by this fun little unique quirky title that makes great use of the Wii Remote. I picked Elebits up almost half a year ago surprisingly. Yet for some reason I just wasn't compelled to play it. But last week I gave it ago and wow was I amazed at how fun it was. The Wii Remote controls are fantastic....Flipping open Cupboards, lifting up objects and turning on electric devices has never been so fun ;p You'd think a game like this would feel repetitive because those things aside it's all about powering up your gun and most importantly capturing Elebits...But NO, it's very addicting. Definitely the best portion of the game is in Kai's House. Because the frame rate is much better and more stable and you don't get overwhelmed by the insane amount of elebits there are..and i like that it's not as open, it's more confined to smaller spaces ect.

Graphic wise it's nothing special...at times(in Kai's house) it actually looks solid, yet simplistic as always. In Kai's House the frame rate holds up well...once you hit the town and the Carnival, most of the time the framerate is below 30...it makes the game a little annoying to play and look at...it's especially annoying because your reticule chugs along during frame rate dips. Once you enter the giant outdoor levels you'll definitely notice this right off the bat. You'd think a game with simple Dreamcast-like graphics would be locked on and be running at 60fps....but it's not. A little more development time and i'm sure Konami could of easily pulled it off and would of made all the difference.

As for the Sound, the voice acting kis kind of weak...but then again it just feels like somebody is reading a childrens book and comes off whimsical and a little over the top which is cool. The Music gets the job done, it's not amazing or anything and i dont think you'll be humming any of the tunes once you blaze through the game.Game. Gameplay wise(most importantly hehe) the IR controls work great! there may be the occasional hic up after twisting things. Your reticule may be all over the place, but it's repositioned pretty fast. People seem to be complaning about opening the doors, yet with the flick of the rist it's easily done.

The Elebits themselves range from different looks and colors. There are over a dozen different types. The Yellow and Pink elebits are used to power up your gun which come from electronic devices WHICH soon become usable when you collect a certain amount of 'normal' elebits. It's a fun little gimmick and that's basically what the game is all about. You need more power for your gun to lift heavier objects to capture more elebits. There are also Bosses which can be quite fun...but none of them are really challenging and I was surprised at how easy the final boss was. What's very challenging on the other hand is trying to get an 'S' rank during the levels. I managed to get a few...but I doubt I'll ever want to go back to those 15 minute long Outdoor levels and try to pull off an S Rank, It's just too touch and I've got too many games to play

Like I said earlier I felt the best portion of the game is in the House...I love the first level especially, and Level 16 in the Town is another favorite of mine. it takes place in a beutiful street at night, full of houses and pom trees...while elebits are floating everywhere in the beautiful midnight sky, while you need to get capture them with homing missles ;p It's like something out a dream ;p
There are other things as well like the lame(last minute thaught) 2 player mode where one person has to control the camera...no thanks.lol and there are other modes that are pretty cool as well yet I'm too lazy to get int o them so bluh ;p

Overall I'd nail Elebits with an 8/10

Anyways what did you guys think of elebits?

I haven't played the Wii version but I have the DS version, and this review is pushing me to get it.

Elebits was a fantastic game, I'd probably give it a 7 out of 10, the framerate issues in the outside levels was a letdown, but otherwise I had incredible fun with this game

The framerate problems were totaly a let down for sure....But you do get used to it. But what i found even more odd was that there was this weird blur filter when turning in certain levels...Take for example, once you step outside the kitchen in one of the earlier levels and enter Kai's backyard...When you turn the screen it blurs. Yet while you're indoors(the first level for example) the game looks like it's locked on at 60fps(could be 30fps i forget) and there's zero bluring....You'd think a simplistic looking game like this would be locked on at 60fps. Galaxy even did it and that game was gorgeous and clearly pushed the Wii's hardware. then again, elebits has so much stuff going on with objects and elebits flying around and so on, so who knows.

Wow, I never ever thought of buying this game, but it sounds like I might have missed out

Boom.

Once you learn the controls and play the first Stage you'll definitly be thinking that
The game's very cheap too...I'm pretty sure you can get it new for around $20 CAN.

It's definitly another hidden(sort of) Gem on the Wii.

Zack & Wiki, Klonoa and Wario Land Shake it! are in that catagory as well, but all of 3 of these titles are in a different league when compared to Elebits and are flat out amazing. Hopefully we get sequals to all 3 but I highly doubt it as they all sold poorly...

Speaking of hidden gems, I think I should give de Blob a try...and I'm very interested in Mushroom Men...ahh and then there's Boom Blox Bash party, will be buying that as I missed out on the first!

Well, for me, I think it was about a 7/10. It was great fun until you had limits for many things. While the power-ups helped, it was just a little too difficult for me.

I'm pretty sure I think I'm funnier than I really am.

@Donatello, thanks for the review, I keep seeing Eledees/Elebits at really cheap prices so may well get round to picking this up. You should definitely get Boom Blox: Bash Party, especially if you're looking for a multiplayer game, I think BB:BP is one of the best multiplayer games on the Wii. The original BB was pretty good too, although had a few problems (difficulty spikes, imbalanced scoring for multiplayer levels, and the shooting levels were frustrating and dull), which have all been corrected in the sequel and everything looks a whole lot nicer. Haven't played either of the other games you mention.

I borrowed it from my library [that's right, my local library lets you borrow Wii/PS360 games for free!] and I had a great time with it. I never beat it, but it was a huge amount of fun throwing couches and computers around.

Just let it happen.

It would be great if Konami worked on a Sequal...I'd love to see Motion Plus used, Improved graphics
,locked on at 60fps always, remove the weird annoying blur Filter when turning(which plagued certain levels) ect ect.

Anyways, this is definitly a game that would completly fail on the PS3 and 360...honestly, using Dual Analog for this game would be soo terrible and boring.lol But playing an HD elebits, locked on at 60fps using Sony's Wand would be great.

On another note, i checked out all of the modes...The level editor is great, but honestly i've never been into editing levels whatsoever in any game so it doesn't appeal to me. there are other modes where you can take pictures during gameplay, you can enter a room which is full of all of the different types of Elebits you've encountered and you can read about each and every one of them. There's a movie player mode which is pretty cool....I seriously LOVE the beautiful colorful(purple is used alot here) surreal Artwork they use for the cutscenes....Hell that stuff is worthy of putting up on your wall and last but not least....actually ya it is ;p The mode where you can see all of the objects you've interacted with during gameplay.

Here's hoping for an Elebits 2...because Elebits layed down the groundwork, now it just needs to be tweaked with and improved on. Anyways, was Elebits a bit of a hit, or did it sell poorly?

I was at Best Buy (Canada) picking up NMH2 on it's release day and saw this for only $9.99. I was kinda on the fence about it and ended up getting Spyborgs instead which was also $9.95. I think I might have to go back and pick up Elebits now. So many games, so little time.
