I'm going to guess this winter for Japan, next summer for the west. Because my random guesses are worth so much. But it's been in development for awhile now, and DQ9 has had its chance to shine, so I see no reason a Japanese release should be far off for them. I would assume they just haven't revealed it all this time because they didn't want to distract buyers from DQ9.
Hope its as good as DQIX, with customizable charactors, party, vocation, etc. Wii should give this one a chance to shine the brightest of all the Dragon Quests.

Maybe they could package it in an extra-shiny case like Kirby Superstar Ultra.
As far as I'm concerned, combine IX's amazing accessibility and balance with VIII's presentation and overworld-size and you have all I need for DQ X. I gotta say I feel kinda disappointed that I'm not being teased with any gameplay or screenshots yet either
I'd love if they added the ability to view battles in the old-style as well, cutting down on animation time/flash if desired. DQ IX definitely had the right idea compared to VIII (where certain abilities required a bit of loading time during battle) but battle "fluff" (time between attacks, transitions, etc.) could still stand to be cut down...at the very least give us the option! DQ VIII random battles started to feel like Wild Arms after a while, and that's never a good thing

While it's certainly NOT the most important part of a game I would prefer Dragon Quest X to have spectacular graphics for the wii to put a sock in the mouths of those who say it's graphicly weaker then the PS2 in terms of specs it could easily produce graphics on par with FF XII which was one of the best looking PS2 games ever released
hmm Maybe itll be for 3DS ya know after the 7 and 8 remakes
Digitaloggery 3DS FC: Otaku1 WiiU: 013017970991 Nintendo of Japan niconico community is full of kawaii! Must finish my backlagg or at least get close this year W...
All I've seen in terms of solid info was a clip of the games startup screen after the company logos were shown it showed a 10-12 second clip of the sun setting behind a castle town & then the Dragon Quest X logo appeared that was in january 2010 nothing before or since then heck even that clip was removed shortly after being posted :/
Considering how well DQIX did, I think it's safe to say it'll have a lot of similar features. The customisation and multiplayer aspects especially seemed to really sell it to people who hadn't even heard of the series before.
I know some people who are bummed about this not going to the HD consoles- but at the end of the day, HD doesn't add anything significant to the game itself. DQVIII still looks gorgeous to this day and I can only hope DQX will look better for obvious reasons. Just not HD.
Anyhow, I'm surprised work on this game started so soon. Was it not announced before DQIX came to the states? That's crazy.
But exciting. I am curious if they have any plans of moving it to Nintendo's next console. The benefit of doing that is having more time to localize and potentionally have it for simultaneous release worldwide and as a launch title for the console; having a great RPG from the start is a huge bonus.
Either way, I'm excited. But I do want them to leave it on Wii unless it will benefit significantly from the move somehow.

Well, I'm wonder if they'd do a 7 remake.
DQ1+2 on DQ5 engine. DQ3 on DQ6 engine (Enix' last Super Famicom game) DQ4 on DQ7 engine. (Enix' last PS1 game, I think. If the US version were to be finished, it probably would've been their last.) DQ5 (not?) on DQ8 engine (although they were released in Japan the same year) DQ6 remade the same time as DQ9 (not sure if it's the same engine, haven't gotten to playing mine yet)

Nah, DQ6 does not use the same engine at all- particularly the character sprites. The music in DQ6 is much more orchestral (probably is) than DQ9. In looks, DQ9 is like DQ8 with the 'style'. Same goes for DQM:Joker 1 & 2
