I'm surprised that Japanese VC still didn't get this game yet. I know that it's a lot like SMB2 or SMUSA over there but it has some differences such as characters, the way to beat it (must beat with all 4 characters), boss appearances (mouser appears 3 times), and music (different potion room and invincibility theme). Since the Wonder Boy games get different version releases, this game should at least appear on Japanese VC. It will also be a good candidate for an import title since it needs no translation. The fact that it isn't out on VC cannot be due to the Famicom Disk emulation as SMB: Lost Levels has been released on the service. Anyone else thinks that this should be released on VC?
Doki Doki Panic was a joint effort with a Japanese TV company. I don't think Nintendo will go through the trouble of re-licensing those rights for a game they already have a much better version of in the form of Super Mario Bros. 2 (USA).
I wonder how they got the rights to release Takeshi No Chousenjou...
Taito probably negotiated a deal with the copyright holder. It's not impossible, but a publisher would only do that if they felt a re-release was worth the effort.
