Topic: Damn the new Super Mario Brothers Wii is hard

I don't think people realize how difficult the game is because they keep seeing how many lives they have. If you compare this with the original Super Mario Brothers where, unless you do the infinite lives glitch, 1-ups are much more scarce, dying four times in a level would be a sure way towards game over. I think if you took out all the extra lives, the game would be just as hard as SMB3. Both games mask their difficulty by feeding you green mushroom after green mushroom.

Come on, friends,
To the bear arcades again.

People keep talking about how many lives there are but I've gotten like three game overs. Yeah, I had like 20 lives by the end of world 1, but then I started playing multiplayer and you lose a lot of lives in multiplayer.

Well, that was lame. It was delivered to the shop Friday, but apparently I chose the wrong shop from the drop-down and it was at St. Enoch's rather than Sauchiehall Street -- glad I had the store manager phone their customer service! I've the game, but haven't played it (nearly done with story mode in Anno and need to play Jambo Safari for review). Big plus was that they had a like-new pre-owned copy of Wii Sports Resort (boxed and including the unused reg code) for £37 which I got with my credit -- I wasn't going to get it, but Wii Motion Plus is ace and now I'm ready to properly review Rage of the Gladiator!

One of my friend's got to the end with 5 continues. My other had 20. I had 0 continues and 87 lives. ...oh, and at several points, they were intent on lowering that number. Some luck they had, and the few kills they got were repaid with interest.

I always thought I was the most skilled platformer between the three of us. Now it's official. XD

Don't get me wrong though, we cooperated even more than we fought. Or at least, I cooperated with my friend with the 5 continues a lot. My other friend just couldn't get in sync, and trusted me so little that he immediately spun out of my grip (often into further danger) every time I picked him up, so I helped my other friend get lots of 1ups.

The challenge is NSMBW is good. Yes, I beat the game (and we did most of the levels) with a whole lot of lives, on multiplayer, with friends occasionally trying to kill me as well, but the challenge makes NSMB look like Mario is Missing, and the level design is superb. It's the game we've been waiting for since 1991, without a doubt. Anybody on the fence, read that last statement. Even if you thought NSMB was an insult, you'll probably love the hell out of this game. If you don't, you probably forgot what a fun game is.

this game is just too difficult, I used to own the DS version and got stuck in world 3 forever
nintendo should make two version (easy/hard) so that stupid gamer like me can still enjoy all the different worlds instead of getting stuck in world 1 forever

Have you not heard of the Super Guide? It was designed for people like you.

The super guide isn't much fun if you need it over, and over, and over again. It's no longer a game if you need it for every level - and after seeing my better half love the game, but hate playing it, I can see where Peach is coming from.

Also, well done on adopting a condescending tone. It must feel really big and important that you're a 1337 Mario gamer.

You let it take you through the hard parts that you're having trouble with and then take over when you feel comfortable. Have you used the Super Guide?

if I use luigi to go through the hard part I know I'm able to take over (I thought I'll still have to play it completely by myself!!!)
using luigi will count as complete the level too?? OMG It's so nice to know!!

I thought luigi is there just to "show" me how to go through the course!!

Actually even if the super guide let me skip one course, you know, if I can't even do world 1 by myself, how can I survive in world 2.....

Nintendo is great because they do their best to make their games more accessible to a larger audience. It's a great endeavor, and one that is not easy to pull off. I hope you're able to continue on farther into the game Peach, because it does get better. Even though the game does, or is supposed to get, progressively harder, some levels, even later in the game, are pretty easy I think. (Of course, not as easy as Level 1-1). =)

the first time I play super mario bros was on a gameboy, I think it's the oldest super mario bros...(you only have 3 lives and in level 3 you beat some lions up)
when I was playing that game I died in the first level many many many times.....
I have to admit that I'm just not good at video games.

I don't wanna give up super mario bros wii like I did in the DS version...I liked the game a lot just that I'm lacking all the necessary skills.

Nope, when you hit plus while watching the Super Guide you have the option to jump in and start playing where Luigi is at that point during the video.
