@Machu-I'm curious, have you bought Punch-Out!! yet? If so, does your Wii read Punch-Out!! without any problems? I keep hearing rumors that Punch-Out!! is dual-layerd, but I seriously doubt it is.
I have never had a problem with Brawl but then again I do not play it a ton like I do COD. That really sucks your having problems getting Trilogy to work. Unfortunately my technical prowess sucks. I hope you get it resolved so you can enjoy your game.
I do not understand what Nintendo is doing. I mean, the problem first occured with Smash Brothers Brawl and it's a well known and common problem by the time now. Why do they keep releasing games on that problematic Dual Layer media instead of using 2 Single Layer Discs?
BTW: Mario Kart Wii is also on Dual Layer DVD, isn't it?

I'm a bit surprised this is an issue frankly -- not like dual-layer DVD is new. There is a higher failure rate when pressing it, but not as high as dual-sided dual-layered which is why a lot of TV shows (in my experience Law & Order series) no longer come on that media, but switched back to single-sided dual-layered discs (maintaining shelf space savings by switching to dual disc slimline cases).
Mario Kart is single layer as far as I know, I play it at least twice a week and have never had any problems. I've been looking and can't find any others beside the two previously mentioned. And no, I too don't understand why they continued to use a format that has known issues (by releasing MPT even after the issues with Brawl), what's wrong with two discs? I can think of a few GC games I played over two discs, surely that would be the safer bet.

I think this "double layer" stuff is a bunch of nonsense. Nintendo has always been known for exceptional QC, and honestly, I think that they are just playing some CYA here.
HOWEVER, with that being said, I have had absolutely no problems with my system. I'm just disappointed that so many others are.
A bunch of nonsense huh, thanks. I too have always respected Nintendo for the quality of their consoles, the Wii is the first one I've EVER had a problem with. And releasing The Trilogy on dual-layer a year after having to fix (if you can call it that) numerous consoles doesn't seem like the best way to CYA, as you put it.
I have a July 2007 wii and it never had a problem reading dual layer discs even after it falling over from people tripping on gamecube controller cords. I was playing brawl when it happened and after it fell I picked it up and continued playing
