any chance of getting colecovision games added to the VC??

Not a chance in hell. Boy do I wish. I'd love to see Intellivision, Colecovision, and Atari 2600.

I would say there is a small chance. I don't think anybody expected to ever see C64 games released on the VC either. Not to mention the GC/PS2/XBox Intellivision Lives! compilation, which means somebody still holds the rights to several of the games and could easily put them on the VC.

I would also say it's extremely unlikely, but yes, i didn't think we'd see the C64 either (if only b/c of interface issues).

Glad i still have my original monster system! Hmm, now i'm tempted to fire up Wargames when i get home (one of our huge faves as kids, and a great example of an excellent "movie game")!

The Shpydarloggery
She-Ra is awesome. If you believe otherwise, you are clearly wrong.
Urban Champion is GLORIOUS.

I have a pre-crash rig with my Colecovision and all modules, Intellivision, Atari 2600, Atari XEGS, Odyssey 2, Commodore 64, and my Vectrex. Love the old school stuff.

The Intellivision controller is too hard to work around to make it really viable for the VC. The Intellivion collections were a disaster control-wise.
Yeah, the Colecovision har similiar controllers, but nearly all the good games just used the stick and the trigger buttons during gameplay, so it's not that big a deal there.

Yeah, I actually imported Intellivision Lives for the Gamecube, but the control was really rubbish. The menus were also irritating to navigate and frankly I just didn't find the games to be as good as Atari 2600 ones, so I put it back on Ebay. Shame because originally I was quite jazzed about it.

Regarding Colecovision, I remember at the time it came out it was noteworthy for having some great quality arcade ports of games like Venture, Space Fury and Zaxxon (among others), but other than Wargames I cannot think of any particularly original games coming out for it, unlike the 2600 or Intellivision -- is there anything for the console that wouldn't be wrapped up in 3rd party licensing?

I think getting Activision/Imagic/Atari 2600/5200 titles would be a lot easier and more worthwhile.

No.

The system itself is worthy being on the vc, but there would a problems due to the nature of the game releases.

1.) Some of the 3rd parties for the system no longer exist or they merged with a company that is not involved with the vc.
2.) A good amount of games for the Colecovision are arcade ports and that would go against the virtual arcade the vc.
3.) The arcade publishers for some arcade games that were later ported for the Colecovision no longer exist like the Creators of Mr. Do and Lady Bug for an example.
4.) While the Colecovision has some computer ports, it would go against the C64 since Eypx was one the 3rd party publishers for the Colecovision.
5.) We enough vc systems already and Nintendo doesn't release a lot of vc games a week.
6.) Colecovision has a good amount homebrew games since 1997 and is a problem since there would be licensing problems to a good amount of games. It is caused by homebrew arcade ports, Msx game ports, homebrew ports of game console games only.

Coleco's first-party games were largely arcade conversions or licensed games, yeah.
You can see a complete list of Colecovision games here, sortable by publisher.

But yeah, the Colecovision was largely notable in it's day for high-quality arcade ports (my favorite CV game is Popeye, in case anyone was wondering), and that's not really going to sell people on it today if it was to be put on the VC.

Don't feel too bad, I somehow mixed up Colecovision with Intellivision lol.

Uh, no, they don't. They have similiar controllers, but they each offer a very very different type of game library. The difference is about the same as between the Wii and PS360. The Colecovision was a high-end consoles focusing on top-notch arcade ports (sadly for them, Atari had picked up exclusive licenses for the most popular games, leaving Coleco with less-popular titles. They managed to get ahold of the Donkey Kong series before Atari, though), while the Intellivision was focused on multiplayer games (sports games being their big selling point) and games with in-depth control systems and more sophisticated gameplay than you'd find in the arcade.

Which is what makes adapting for use with a modern gamepad a bunch of arse. Trying to use the virtual keypad for games like B-17 Bomber was a complete joke -- a lot of the games are borderline unplayable as a result!
