Topic: Chrono Trigger European release

This is very big news as I'm pretty sure it was never released in Europe previously? Anyway I have heard a lot of praise for this game. Some
say it's the best game of all time etc. I am considering buying it when it comes out to see what all the fuss is about. However, a few months
ago I bought Secret of Mana after reading similarly positive reviews. I started Mana after playing A link to the past, and found Mana to be a little sluggish in comparison. I found Mana to be unreasonable in difficulty level and gave up after around 50 attempts at those damn werewolves early on in the game. I am wondering if I will have any issues with Chrono Trigger as I was very disappointed with Mana?

Like any RPG Chrono trigger takes patience and determination. If you didn't like Mana I have doubts you'll get much out of Chrono trigger. It's a bit different though. The battles are turn based rather than hack and slash. Without the proper leveling and equipment any game of this type can be difficult. I just really don't like when there's a ton of grinding in RPGs and battles happen every two steps. I tend to avoid the ones with random battles. At least in Chrono trigger and Mana you can walk around the enemies and avoid them.

I don't recall Chrono Trigger having too much grinding, unless you get anxious to learn new specials (as you collect separate points, specials are learned independent of experience levels). Though there's a bunch of side-quests near the end, you probably want to do them, if only for the experience so you'll be strong enough to fight the final boss.

For a Square RPG it's actually not that hard. But if you're a JRPG fan you owe to yourself to play this. It's one of those few games with so much soul that you don't it want to end.

I only played the DS Chrono Trigger, and I think you can find that game for $10 bucks used

Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy III/IV to me are the best RPGs of the SNES era. LIke JumpMad said Chrono Trigger has so many plots an twist and each one is as interesting as the last. The variety of characters offers you so many group combinations and the music score is one of the best I have ever heard (espeically the underwater palace music). If you havent played Chrono Trigger before than you are in for a treat.

Am considering downloading it on the VC. I don't own a DS and am not from the US.
Have you played Secret of Mana?

With no disrespect towards Mana, it's a really great game. But in comparison to Chrono Trigger it feels a little empty. Contentwise Chrono is a beast. It has a plethora of scenarios, which will likely be burned into your memory forever. First time I played it was in my early twenties (around 2006) and I still got some kind of nostalgic attachment to this game.
Also Secret of Mana was developed by a different team. Chrono's team was consisted of the best of the best from Square an Enix, hence the nickname "dream team".

Chrono Trigger is much easier to get into than SoM. It's one of the few old school RPGs that I've actually beat too, haha.

I found Chrono Trigger to be pretty easy (except the FInal Boss of course) and I had a bad experience with Secret of Mana too...I don't know how to even find the girl!

I can be cute if I want to be, but I choose not to...as it's not my style.

Thanks for the input guys. I think I will d/l it when it's released and give it a go. It sounds a little easier to get into. Glad it's not just me that had a bad experience with SoM.

Chrono Trigger is downright briliant. The only reason not to play this if you don't like JRPG's, but even then you might make an exception for this one.
