Topic: Charles Martinet teases NEW Mario game via Twitter! ~ RUMOR

If the rumor is true, here are our clues:

• Mama Mia!!!! I'm going to Seattle this week to record a new Mario game! Woo Hooo!!!!! I can hardly wait!!!!1
• Big day tomorrow! Seattle for a new Mario game! Yippee!!! And just as a joke, it's going to rain....in San Francisco tomorrow!
• Awesome new Mario Game! And it's not NSMB Wii, and it's not Galaxy 2, but it's going to be crazy fun!

Charles Martinet is going to record a new Mario game, so no RPG. He seems optimistic, so it has to be something that will likely have 80's-90's Metacritics score. Also, it's not New Super Mario Bros. Wii or Super Mario Galaxy 2. It's also not something released already.

So here is our possibilities. A new Mario Golf game or a Mario Party game.

I'm just curious, why so specific about it being golf? Why not another sport?

Mario: Other M

A new game developed by Team Ninja in which Mario uncovers his mysterious past. You'll also get to flick off walls before slamming Goombas from dramatic angles and launching fireballs right down Bowser's gullet with a fully-featured combat engine.

At the moment this is obviously just a rumour - his Twitter isn't a verified account, so could be anyone really - but I'll be sure to ask him about it next time I see him.

Mario Crossing?

We already have a NPC for Mario Power Tennis, we already had Mario Kart Wii, we have a basketball game for the Wii, we have Mario Strikers Charged!, and Mario Super Slugger.

So considering all that, it's either a new Mario Golf game, Mario Party 9, or an American Football game.

This seems to go hand in hand with the IGN podcast that mentioned Craig was going to Seattle (I think) to see a new A-list Nintendo title. I highly doubt it will be a throwaway Mario sports/party game. I'm guessing another Paper Mario. One seems to come out every other year with the years inbetween being Mario and Luigi.

NPCs don't count as Wii games, so it could be MPT, and just because we already have one installment of the series on the system doesn't mean we can't have another. And there isn't a Mario Basketball on the Wii, so it could be that too.

It's three years in between the Paper Mario installments and one year after the M&L installments last release that Paper Mario installments come out. While there aren't really enough data points to call it a reliable trend, those are two predictors that both point to 2010 as the next Paper Mario.

I would love to see a new Paper Mario game, especially if it's an RPG. I enjoyed Super Paper Mario, but it felt a little flat on the platforming (a little ironic - a platforming hero spins off to RPG and then that spins off back into platforming and it's not a great success). Still, the majority of it was wholely entertaining, especially Fort Francis. The dialogue was hilarious throughout.

Interesting trend, but how much Mario do we really need in the span of one year? If it comes out before next December, that'll be NSMB Wii, M&L: BiS, SMG2, and this new Paper Mario... quite the Mario overload. Even plumbers need a rest.

Edit: @Raylax I would think it ought to be an RPG (assuming the game is planned for next year), or at least more RPGish. Why churn out an inferior platformerer right on the heels of NSMB Wii? I don't think there'd be as much interest.

@Adam: Aye, that's true. Well, whatever it's about it means there's a new Mario game coming. Which as got to be good news regardless of what it is, right? If it's true, anyway.

Well I doubt it could be the "teased" game that IGN was talking about. I don't want to be too technical, but I was under the impression that the teased title was an "A-title". Just about anything with Mario in it is an automatic AAA title. That being said, it really would be totally "unexpected" the way Matt C. and his cronies were alluding. Who would've thought another Mario game could follow NSMB Wii and Galaxy 2?

Ooo, and they're saying that BIS heavily suggests that there'll be a sequel. Paper Mario 4 next year, and M&L 4 in a few more? Sounds good to me.

I'm keeping my bets on Mario's Fundamentals 2 still...
