question in topic, I'm considering getting this game and need to know if it's any fun when my friends are not over so how's the wifi?
There he goes, Firkraag. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die. - My VGscore
Yes but there are some problems. First, there are two "random match" modes. There is the Basic Brawl (every man for himself), and then there is the Team Battle (2 vs 2).
Basic Brawl works crappy in my opinion. It disconnects me way too many times. Team Battle works a lot better to me. It connects faster and keeps the connection. It's also very fun to have a teammate.
Sometimes there is problems with lag, I think its because someone is playing with a crappy connection. Overall though, I'm happy with the random match brawling.

Unfortunately, the lag is pretty bad, at least everytime I've played. Even split-second lag matters in a game such as this. It makes each match outcome heavily based on luck. However, the game is extremely fun with friends over.

The online sucks horribly. One of the worst online attempts this generation. Trust me, you'll experience constant disconnection and/or a huge amount of lags. I don't know why the online is so bad, that's the reason why the game needed to be delayed even further (And maybe got us a 3rd third-party character. Yes, I'm still bitter about that.).
I've never noticed a problem with lag...but then, I don't play that often. I like to spectate more than anything. But when I do play, I've hardly ever had any lag
