Topic: Can the wii handle an MMO

Methinks someone just needs to get over the fact that MMO's are what the abbreviations say they are in a literal sense.

Anyways, any console (even DS) can handle an MMO (guess it's being done on 360, PS3, Wii, DS etc. cause of them online games).

As for a game like WoW or Guild Wars, it can be done if DONE right. Working within limitations of the hardware is really the only way to do it and trying not to overachieve. I think most devs look at things like: "Because this isn't the same as that, it can't be done" when indeed, it can be. Cutting corners and trying to work within a hardware's limitations is the only way such a thing will happen (sound like a broken record, I know).

OFF-TOPIC: That's why there aren't too many GREAT 3rd Party games on Wii. Devs try to overachieve and complain when it is clearly possible for a game as good as the 'stronger' consoles to be done on Wii. All about Efficiency.

How many players playing at the same time doesnt qualify it as Massive. The term massive means you have hundreds or thousands of people connected to the server(s) at one time. GoldneEye can be considered an MMO cause even though there are only 8 or so people in your current game theres no telling how many hundreds are connected to the game online at that time. The same with MHT.

Nope, it's all about the amount of people you're playing with that makes it massive and thus an MMO.
Having hundreds of people connected to the game, but only playing in small groups just means its a popular multiplayer game, but there's nothing massive about it. The amount of people playing the game seperately from you doesn't change your gameplay experience at all.

I don't know dude, Guild Wars is a MMO, you can see alot of people in the towns, but not play with them, you can only play with groups of max 8 persons.

It's what goes on in the towns that make it a MMO, though.

Once again, persistant worlds. Goldeneye doesn't have a persistant world.

We know what your trying to say but Monster hunter is probably the closes thing Nintendo Wii can handle. It would be considered mmo on the light side.

Wouldn't that just be an MORPG, as the multiplayer isn't massive?

Ash: Professor Oak, how's your Bulbasaur?
Prof. Oak: Oh, it only hurts when I sit.
...
Prof. Oak: It's only Chansey if Krabby won't let go. Bye, now.
Ash: I don't think I'm going to call him anymore.
